I think it has been blown way out of proportion, but in case anybody wants to comment, go on.

But - - there are different kinds of stupidity. And Cruelty is one that REALLY needs to be nipped in the bud early, or you might get one seriously dangerous adult later.

Myself, I was less stupid than most, always kind of level-headed, and, just as important, always scared to get into trouble. But even I have a couple of nasty childhood memories of behavior that I'm frankly ashamed of. But, maybe it's the times we live in, when I was that age, I would NEVER have said such things to an adult. Good lord, no. It was unbelievably cruel and stupid behavior. Worse than just childish goofiness. And my suspicion is that there were one or two really BAD kids, the others joining in as kids will do. Hell, as adults will do.

It's like an "immortality complex" and kids have this ego. I had one, not that I wasn't sensitive and didn't have empathy, but I was guilty of being a kiddie jerk. It's probably worse when we are kids, but man, there is alot of rampant stupidity lately. Except here, I guess. This place attracts mostly benevolent nerds of all ages! I think.

Jun 23 12 7:08 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	i heard one of the kids threatened her with a knife.verbally threatoned to cut her not showing the knife.so the police got involved.i think the behavior was beyond kids not sitting down and throwing paper wads around. as long as taxpayers don`t have to pay the school bus monotor i do not care if she gets the money or not.

This woman does seem the wrong sort, bless her heart. A Luca Brasi type might be more what these kids need.

Jun 23 12 7:26 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I've heard of bus monitors with very young kids and special needs kids, just to be sure they don't get hurt, they get off the bus when they're supposed to, they stay in their seats. But a monitor with regular kids of middle school age, I dunno. New to me.

On the other hand, it's rare that you hear of kids doing the really horrible things in life. Kids don't build the gas chambers or commit genocide or fly airplanes into office buildings. They have to wait until they're adults to do that. So if it comes to a showdown I know whose side I'm taking..

It was packed and about 80% of the passengers were school kids. As soon as the bus pulls out of the station, the bell goes off. The driver stops, no one owns up, the journey resumes. Two minutes later, it goes off again. The bus stops, the driver lectures the passengers on correct use of the bell. We've barely gone another hundred yards and it happens again. This time, a very angry driver tells the kids that he'll be driving the same bus tomorrow and they had all better find another way of getting to school, because they won't be getting on his bus. From then on the bell is rung regularly every 2 minutes and the driver just ignores it, except when it's a legitimate stop . As we get to the school stop, the bell is rung again, and the driver ignores it, and the next stop, none of the kids could get off.Eventually it stops, about a mile past the school. All the commuters on the way to work were pssng themselves with laughter, especially when it became apparent there were several teachers on the bus who'd done nothing, and the culprit had been grassed up by other kids. Many of the passengers congratulated the driver as they got off, and it cheered up a miserable morning. Russ

As for our Stateside incident, just going by the type of insults directed at the poor woman (overweight, low income etc.), I'm going to guess that Greece is a snooty over-priveleged Rochester suburb. So of course, I blame the snooty, over-priveleged parents. Poor role modeling, that's my take. Once the kids start getting death threats, now the moms and dads suddenly start taking an interest in what goes on. Just do your jobs, ya clueless goofballs.

Until either or both premised are shown to be otherwise. Presuming that's best practice, how to implement that I have no idea. But at my home and my school and other places it was enforced (enforced, I say), and the enforcement was built into the systems. The only escape was when we kids were by ourselves. Maybe these kids are never, or are always, by themselves. Good luck, Earth.

Trying to find some good here, and not just "all people suck", I will say that people's reaction to this video gives me hope (for the hundredth time... do I never learn?) that society and officialdom are trying to come to grips with the breadth and many guises of bullying. It's possible we're handling bullying in a more sophisticated manner than in the past, when denial at every level was the norm. I think we're working on it anyway. Poor lady.
