So sorry we didn't get to go out to dinner, Max. I don't think your phone company wanted it to happen! Had a great time seeing Rich Scrivani after so many years, and it almost made up for hearing Tom Weaver tell the same old stale jokes... Jim Clatterbaugh's wife was a real sweetheart, and I was very happy to meet her.

After eating in the noisy hotel sports bar three nights in a row, the next niht Julie and her daughter-in-law didn't want to go to the Texas rib joint we were all invited to, as we had been told that it was probably even noisier than the sports bar and they wanted a little "quiet time." But after the day's events were over, she had to be interviewed for a DVD documentary, and then I had to be interviewed after them. In the middle of my interview, Bert I. Gordon and his daughter came into the filming room and I had to step aside because Bert has more clout than I do, and I waited until his interview was done. By then it was so late I decided I couldn't finish my interview, as Julie was waiting to eat, which was probably all for the best because my brain had turned to mush by then and I couldn't even recall the name of my company.

So I then drove Julie and her daughter-in-law all around town for quite some time looking for another restaurant, but apparently everything closes in Butler by 8:30 p.m. After almost deciding to return to the noisy sports bar, we finally found one place open, and it was that noisy Texas rib joint! But when we got inside, it turned out that it wasn't that noisy after all, or maybe it's because it was now so late that everyone was too drunk to make noise. By the time we showed up, everybody was well into their meal, so we ate by ourselves. I didn't notice whether you were there or not, as my stomach was rumbling so loudly and the steaks smelled so good, all I could do was make a beeline for a table to order something.

If you were there and I didn't notice you, Max, please forgive me. I wasn't ignoring you! All I remember was Tom Weaver and Jim Clatterbaugh making accusatory comments about how I was keeping Julie all to myself! Well, that might have been partly true, but the larger part is that we had hoped to be eating about 90 minutes earlier, but that obviously didn't happen. Maybe I should blame it all on Bert I. Gordon, but he and his daughter were so delightful that I won't do that. First time I had met him, and he was really nice. He seemed to like my idea of hosting a party in honor of Bronson Canyon (where he filmed THE CYCLOPS), so I invited him to be a guest and he seemed interested. That will be fun if I can get the City of Los Angeles/Griffith Park to go along with some of my crazy ideas! If we manage to pull it off, I will be sure to have it videoed so it can be enjoyed by those outside of the southern California area.

Sorry I missed you two nights in a row, then! It was a great restaurant -- very good food. Next time we're in the same area code, I promise we'll get together. I seem to recall some people stopping by our table to say "hi" to Julie (although not to me). Were you amongst them? I definitely had too many beers or something. The whole night was a big blur, mainly because I had gotten almost no sleep the previous two nights.
