The scene with the chef and possibly one other was added to pad the runtime.

Jun 25 12 8:17 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It's not nostalgia that fuels this one for me as it wasn't a part of my childhood like RUDOLPH or something like PINOCCHIO IN OUTER SPACE Just revisited PINOCCHIO a while back. Fortunately this was one animated feature that kept the tunes to a minimum (sometimes "show-stopping" songs simply bring the show to a grinding halt), and there was some pretty impressive sci-fi background art for the alien settings.

Sep 11 12 8:19 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Got this since it was so cheap. The transfer looks like a one-light made while the colorist was out to lunch. Shots with opticals are much more faded, and no attempt has been made to match the color in them with shots surrounding them. So a shot that fades in will look pale and slightly green, then the very next shot of the same character in the same surroundings will be correctly colored. The color on the old DVD was much more consistent. The Blu-ray is sharper and much more detailed, but also a little too bright and low-contrast. There are no true blacks; all the blacks are a little chalky. Overall, a cheap, lazy job. Too bad--with a little bit of basic effort, this could have looked quite nice.

However, this movie is so flat and the songs are dreadful. It could have been great but, sadly, it isn't. I never understood the attraction to Phyllis Diller's style of comedy...I always just found her to be annoying and crass.

The late Mrs. Diller was a hot commodity at the time, which explains her prominence to the piece. I loved her as a kid, but as an adult it's all too "show-biz" for me now.

I'm a Monstuhkid of the right generation, I liked some of the other RB classics, and I loved classic MAD, so I'm ripe for the picking. I've even given MMP repeated chances over the years - but every time, it just misfires somehow. The elements are there, it just doesn't gell. One day though, if I have the editing equipment and the time, I'm going to try cutting the padding and the weak numbers. I think it would help. -Craig

Mad Monster Party is a curiosity best viewed once and shelved. RB classics exist, but they missed the mark with this one. Maybe it only works with Christmas tales... The sad thing was I really wanted to like it. But, alas, it only serves to either annoy me or put me to sleep. "NO SINGING!!!"

A & C MEET FRANKENSTEIN gets the idea of letting the comedians handle the humor, and the monsters handle the scary. Stuff like MAD MONSTER PARTY spoofs everything, and is way too long and sloppy to even work very well at that.

Sep 18 12 5:08 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	These days I think I'd like MMP more if it was only about one hour in length. It being too long is the one main complaint I can agree with. I do, however, find myself putting it into the player every Halloween just for the "Monster Mash-ness" of it, if you will... all the creatures gathering together at Baron Von Frankenstein's old castle. And also for Boris Karloff's participation. I like Phyllis Diller's character's dry humor. And while none of the tunes are "great", I do enjoy a few ("It's Our Time To Shine", "The Mummy").
