Jun 8 12 9:33 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Yes I do. Used to watch a variety of interesting programs. I remember when USA as new and they ran I WAS A ZOMBIE FOR THE F.B.I. I think that as on Night Flight. And they ran the SCI-FRI MOVIE on Friday nights.

LOL My favorite as I recall was Night Flight, always something interesting and unusual on there, and actually that was my introduction to Bela's Monogram period, as they showed some of those, as well as a feature version of THE PHANTOM CREEPS.

After that, I watched Up All Night for years, wondering where the hell they dug up some of those movies. I loved the show's intro, which featured a cameo by Joey Ramone. James

Jun 9 12 1:19 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I remember even farther back -- on early cable, it was the Madison Square Garden Network, and was only on in the evening. They'd show Rangers hockey games (and some non-Ranger games as well). Also basketball, which I ignored. But as I'd moved from Chiocago to the Deep South some years earlier, I hadn't seen NHL hockey in a long time. Yes, the cable channels back in the USA days had some definition: not only USA, but A&E (stuff too boring for PBS), TBS (Atlanta Braves and reruns), TNT (good movies), Nickelodeon (classic old series, not just anything), CNN Headline News (complete newscast every half hour), AMC (uncut movies). Now they're all about the same. And far worse. Spinning the (electronic) dial, I couldn't tell 'em apart. Then again, when skipping through I hit on commercials more often than not.

Jun 11 12 10:23 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Early days of cable...In Manhattan Time Warner was called Paragon and on the MSG Channel, I think it was Channel 10 you'd get to see Euro Spy and Western films at night and they'd run a British detective series with Louis Heyward who had a German Shepherd named "Special" helping him on cases. And they'd run a commercial with Dana Andrews warning people about drinking and driving, saying " I used to drink, I don't anymore!". Then AMC went goofy on us and puts commercials in everything.

Jun 11 12 8:56 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	usa was a great nitch cable channel.comander usa, up all night, night flight and the other shows i can`t recall but enjoyed. unfornatuly cable nitch channels are gone.ice truck drivers on history channel, wrestling on syfy and all the other channels that have all diffrent kinds of programing when they focused on a narrow direction. one exception comes to my mind tcm stays on track.

On many of them it was sometimes hard to find any other proof of their existence. But it does surprise me, after all the kvetching about commercials ruining everything on other stations, that nobody seems to mind those that were on USA. Maybe it's just selective memory, but Up All Night and Night Flight were as commercial-ridden as anything that was ever on TV. And real bottom of the barrel commercials too. Most of them, at least on Up All Night, were cheapjack spots for phone sex lines. Ah, the good old days, indeed!

Jun 11 12 10:41 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	its not the comercials on the cable and broadcast tv that bother me.i never watched tv for comercals.the comercials were opportunities to go to the bathroom ,go to the kitchen, check on something outside or whatever else.i did enjoy watching the programs on the usa network in the day.those i miss even now. as far as comercials there were no good old days.as far as programs there were. i understand the keveching on a channel like amc which began with no comercials but as far as channels that always had comercials i see no problem. I didn't grow up watching a horror host on television (there were none, to my knowledge, on NYC-area television in the late 80s and early 90s), so the host spots from Gilbert Gottfried (who was hilarious) and Rhonda Shearer were my close equivalent (Joe Bob Briggs' MonstorVision on TNT didn't arrive until I turned twenty). And you're right about some of the movies they showed - there was a true "where the hell did this come from, and why would anyone make this?" vibe to a few of them. James

It was also always very clear that they censored their movies. My problem now is that channels that used to be movie channels (and still promote themselves that way to some degree) cut their movies and interrupt them with commercials. With all of the different ways to watch movies now I have no use for watching cut up movies, but that's just me I suppose.

I was also a fan of Night Flight and Commander USA...what happened to shows like that? I remember Night Flight had an Ed Wood night one night. Long before the Rudolph Grey book and the movie. I don't think I ever laughed more in my life than the night I watched J-Men Forever.

Jun 12 12 1:19 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I also didn't mind the commercials. I actually kinda liked the sleazy ones on NIGHT FLIGHT What was important was the content of the show. Sure a lot of it was Grade Z, but it was fun. Same with AMC, honestly if they had continued to show movies from the 30's-50's (predominantly) and just added commercials, though less than what we had before, I would have been ok with it. Before TCM and AMC, I always watched movies with ads, so the ads don't bother me too much, though now TCM has spoiled me, along with a DVR capability, so any movies or TV shows I watch on ad networks (anything but TCM or Encore Westerns), I watch on delay so I can FF through those ads.

But, of course, the commercials got longer and more frequent, as well as louder and dumber. At one point, after a typical commercial break, I found I'd entirely forgotten what the heck it was that I was watching in the first place. (I usually have the TV on while trying to do other things.) That was too much. The stations killed their golden goose long ago. A broadcast has to be something very special to get me to sit through the typical commercial assault, and there are very few of those. I'll do the delay playback trick if I can.

Myself & two college-era friends came across it by accident, and soon passed from "what the h*ll is this?" to "this is the greatest thing EVER!" to gasping for air!

I saw J-MEN FOREVER in a theater and I, and the rest of the audience, laughed uproariously. It was probably 20-25 years later when I found the DVD and finally had a chance to watch it again. I put it on one evening after dinner for my two sons, figuring Dad would make big points with the guys by giving them such a jolly, laugh-filled evening. Well, we all laughed a couple of times in the first 10 minutes or so, then no more laughter from any of us. About a half hour in they both fell asleep and I sat, watching the rest of it, wondering just what the heck had been so funny in that Cincinnati theatre. I've watched it once since then and, again, a few laughs. But precious few.
