You're off on this one - I'm speaking from evidence. (And my arms are not crossed. And I'm not holding my breath. You always seem to conveniently miss my mentioning of the Marvels I love, or have just read!) I've read Marvel and DC (and Charlton, Gold Key, Dell, Warren, First, Malibu, and...) for 50 years. I'm decently well posted on the Golden, Silver, Bronze, and Platinum Ages. And Marvel and DC, taken as whole, have both produced about the same amount of gems as turds. There are a jillion kinds of proof of that. But one of the biggest is that, since way back in the Simon and Kirby days, most of the writers and artists have gone back and forth from both Majors. Do you REALLY think any of them said, "well, I'll do my crap work at X, but save the gold for Y"? (Do YOU do that when working for different producers?) We've danced about this before, but at the end of the day, the Marvel/DC p*ssing match is about as stoopid as the Hammer/Universal one, or any such playground battle! Hey, believe me, there are plenty of folks who agree with me that in some Marvels, the Stan Lee Formula sticks out like a sore thumb. Mar 5 13 5:51 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	To be fair DC had some VERY well known characters and a long established comics history AND they may have settled a bit and MAY have gotten lazy in the 60's because they didnt' have to do anything to different. They had already done so by jump starting the Silver age. Give credit where credit is due. It was DC who launched the Silver age. Along comes Marvel with brand new characters (for the most part). Being "different" was very important in getting noticed and breaking away from the pack. AND that's what they did for a time. It finally started to run it's course though and eventually DC got themselves going and THEY became the innovators again. No to say there weren't big bright spots along the way. Kirby's stay at DC was major, as was Green Lantern Green Arrow, Neal Adams Bats, the death of Aquaman's son etc. Now as far as public's perception of the characters I think well done cartoons like the JLA have done much to differentiate the characters in the public eye. The Flash, for instance, is the funny, more lighthearted guy. Anyways.......based on the history since 1938 it pretty much evens out if you ask me. Robert T.

At the time, DC was just piddling along, rolling the dice, trying different things to generate sales. Marvel, too. Stan Lee was told to come up with something to steal some money from JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA. As a kid in those days, there was no sense that we were there at the beginning of anything important... or that fifty years hence these 10 and 12 cent comic book characters woud be saving Hollywood and dominating the entertainment world. Back in the 60's, comic books appealed to the nerdier element who smuggled them home from the corner drug store, hidden under our T-shirts. Sometimes when we're discussing the pros and cons of whether Christian Bale should return as Batman in the upcoming Justice League movie, I have to stop and remind myself that back when I was reading Justice League it was inconceivable such a day would ever come.

Martian Manhunter would be a CG mocap with an actor like the guy the played the android in Prometheus, and Aquaman maybe an older actor near Bale's age, Old Man of the Sea kind of thing...

If anyone here has never read it you probably should. Might not be your cup of tea but it had a lot going on and sounded like a lot of fun. The casting REALLY left something to be desired though. Having WETA handle the SFX though? And yet Warner can't use ILM because they seem to do the majority of the Marvel films. Also, this JL film has to really be big. You can't do a small story as a response to the Avengers. In my opinion.
