I didn't see a topic devoted solely to this series, so I thought I would start one. I've now read the first two books in Christopher Farnsworth's series about vampire Nathaniel Cade, who is sworn to protect the president and the U.S.A. from all sinister forces foreign and domestic. These are the fastest and most fun reads I've had in some time! Cade is bound to his oath by a voodoo ritual and will stop at nothing to prevent the forces of darkness from destroying life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. He and his human partner, a former White House aide, face werewolves, zombies, lizard men, and all manner of threats natural and supernatural. Classic horror fans in particular should eat these books up because they weave threads from various classic horror films into Cade's universe; incidents like the pod people invasion from INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS and the dream killings of Freddy Krueger are treated as factual occurrences. The America described in these books is a dark one, with a sinister shadow organization deep within the U.S. government pulling the strings and where no one is safe.
I look forward to reading the third book in this series, Red, White, and Blood. The first book has supposedly been optioned for a film already.
