One of the best reasons I enjoyed THE MATCH GAME during the 70s. And he was such a sleaze as the villain of THE RUNNING MAN. And his first wife was DIANA DORS! Lucky dude. My recollection of Richard Dawson in that area was that he DiMaggioed his marriage to Diana Dors: he took the high road and chose to be a gentleman, refusing to discuss his troubled, blonde bombshell ex-wife. I think of him first as Racy Tracy Ratigan on The Dick Van Dyke Show.

While I enjoyed him on Match Game, there was always something kinda sleazy or distasteful about him. When he was in RUNNING MAN, I always wondered if maybe the character wasn't all that different from the actual man... Kinda like Jerry Lewis in KING OF COMEDY...

I never realized he was an actor until years later. One of the two best game show hosts of all time, IMO (along with the late, great Gene Rayburn). From the moment I picked up your book until I laid it down, I was convulsed with laughter. Someday I intend reading it -- Groucho Marx

I think it was after so many years he refused to talk about it, maybe fed up of the association with the show?. Now only Robert Clary is left of the main cast.
