Jul 18 12 7:42 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	you had your wife who knows about that stuff right by you.and thats great that you do.it takes longer for most people.and in a movie there are many things like that. espically in a science fiction movie. is the proper surgical process so important? what happened to the good old days when as long as it looked cool and was entertaning we were satisfied?years ago a movie like prometheus wouldn`t have been picked apart on small details. we have become so jaded. But we aren't talking about science fiction. We are talking about (get ready for this) science fact. This isn't Jason Bourne type of secret stuff that only a handful of people in the world will be able to say if it is incorrect. If you have had abdominal surgery, you probably know. If you are in the medical world, you probably know. If you are a well informed guy who draws dinosaurs and other cool things for a living, it seems you will know. A few minutes of research, that is all it would take. I'm going out for a bit, I think when I get back I will do a search on Yahoo for "abdominal surgery" and see how long it takes me to find an answer. Jul 19 12 11:22 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	^ you miss one point of my previous thread.i will ask it again in a diffrent way. is it that important that the movie writers get every detail correct on the things in the real world they are writing about? is the correct abdomonal surgery technique that important?is it important for every scientific fact to be accurate down to the smallest detail? if i was writing a screenplay i would be busy enough with coming up with story, plot charactor development and the charactors lines. Jul 19 12 12:27 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Screenwriters and film makers need to realize that the massive alchemical stew that is creating a movie can be undone with the slightest error,preposterous scene or logic lapse. Is it fair? Maybe not. Does it happen often? Yes. How many times have people trash talked slasher films for dropping the keys, looking for the cat or the car not starting? One small thing can kill an entire film for someone . I .can't fault a movie fan for getting taken out of an experience by an absurd situation. I feel that if a writer makes that extra effort to try to be as accurate as possible,he respects the intelligence of his target audience and is taking his craft seriously.

Jul 19 12 2:41 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I am a huge Godzilla fan, I can easily accept the absurd. I can accept the drop in logic. PROMETHEUS was a failure in many other aspects. I was just going along with a conversation that was brought up by somebody else. My biggest problem was the one guys reason for finding the aliens. He wanted to find the Gods that created him. I still can't figure out how or why he thought they were anything more than creatures traveling from one planet to another, procreating as they went. By his mentality, that would mean that NBA players are Gods, considering they seem to procreate everywhere they go also. :O) My other problem with the movie was the Scott seemed to be throwing his intellect around during the filming of this film, and what we got in the end was a rather silly little film. The movie looked snazzy, but that was about it. IMO if he felt the need to hand us an ALIEN prequel (and please, with the ending as it is, there is no doubt this is an ALIEN prequel), then there had better be a pretty rock solid story. Otherwise he is no better than Lucas with his need to make stuff up. This didn't have O'Bannon, so it was obviously a gold mine that Scott just wanted to dig in again. The more I think about the movie, the more I dislike it. For me, it is the very definition of pretentious. It wants us to think it is so smart, but it is really nothing more than another summer popcorn flick. Nothing wrong with that, just don't act like it is anything more than what it is. Why, also, was there the need to hire a younger person to play the character of Weyland? That make-up was soooooo bad it was distracting. All I could think was that they wanted Giger to have a role in the film, but knew his accent would get in the way, so they decided to have somebody made up to look like an old version of him. I don't know. I just know I sat there staring at that screen trying to figure out why on earth they would make such a stupid move with that character. Jul 19 12 3:20 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Putting aside the debate about nit-picking the details, the film looked good and had some neat things in it, but after I see the extended cut Ridley promised will be coming our way on home video, I really can't imagine myself going back to revisit this film again after that. It was entertaining, but it just didn't draw me in or captivate me the way the original ALIEN or BLADE RUNNER did. We'll all have our opinion of how good, bad or mediocre PROMETHEUS is, but I don't think (going only by the theatrical cut) this was one of Ridley Scott's most impressive pictures. Maybe his longer cut on the disc will up the ante for me, but for me this would be a film to rent rather than buy when it hits home video.

Jul 19 12 3:45 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	carl the last 3 posts were the kind of things that i can see as a good reason to criticize a movie. in my mind prometheus was a popcorn movie.i expected a popcorn move.no matter what ridley scott wanted us to think it was.so i was not disapointed. the small detail nitpicking is something about what fans do to a lot of movies that bugs me. i enjoyed our back and forth discussion and if it continues or we have another one i will enjoy them.

That stuff might seem trivial, but it has to be there and work. It's like a romance picture where the bride wears the wedding ring on the wrong hand. She's married, but every woman in the theater would tell you that it's not right until the ring's on the left hand.

That sort of thing is so obviously nonsensical that it takes the viewer out of the film. You could maybe call it nitpicking if the movie were otherwise excellent. Actually that would be called spoiling the ship for a hap'orth of tar. But there were so many other things wrong that this was just one more. But it's a very obvious problem, one that lots and lots of people have spotted after the film was released. So how come no-one spotted it beforehand? Here's the thing: it takes no more time or effort or money to get this stuff right, than to get it wrong. Cut across, cut lengthwise: it's the same scene with the same actress, the same crew, the same special effects. The writer of a blockbuster like this will have walked away with at least a quarter of a million dollars for his work. Don't you think, for that money, he should write a halfway decent script. Although to be fair, it's very unlikely that the direction of the cut would be specified in the script. That's ultimately Ridley Scott's call, since he has to tell the actress what's going to happen once the special effects are added. http://www.MJSimpson.co.uk - cult movies and the people who make them
