Jun 3 12 11:01 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I like them both. Those were the chosen attempts after failing to do their own remake of KING KONG. Well what do you expect, part from a no remakes policy, Kong was busy working in Toho Studios in Japan. Anyway I remember ONE MILLION YEARS B.C. I remember seeing the Triceratops vs. Ceratosaurus fight on an episode of READING RAINBOW called "Digging Up Dinosaurs". When I first saw stop-motion dinosaurs as a kid, I was convinced that it is happening. Nowadays with computers, it looks too real.

Even though the two films have the essentially same plot, ONE MILLION YEARS BC has a grimmer tone overall. Even the shooting locations lack vegetation, which is interesting considering dinosaurs had to live there. WDRTE seems lighter, even campier to me. The cave-girls are built like "Little Annie Fannie", and wear full make-up at all times. In one scene, former Playmate of the Year Victoria Vetri dives into the water and comes up with a fish in her mouth. It is hard to take the film very seriously, which makes it my favorite of the two. ONE MILLION has a lot more dinosaur action, the story flows better, and there's a lot more excitement in it, although WHEN does have some fine effects sequences. What it doesn't have is the Raquel Welsh or the Harryhausen magic.

I was posting as my ten year old self, but , yeah there's a version with bums, boobs and a little bit round the front and several years ago, the BBC showed it at about 11 o'clock in the morning. You know, Dinosaur film, kid's stuff. I was disgusted and was glad I'd set the video so I could make sure of what I'd seen. Russ

At the first sight of those scantily clad cavegirls the projector was shut off and the shocked teachers ushered the kids back to their classrooms. Sometimes it pays to do your homework.

Jun 7 12 10:37 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Danforth's animation of his creatures may be smoother, but Harryhausen's dinosaurs LOOK cooler and better integrated with the live-action. And the fact that 1,000,000 B.C. had 2 carnivorous dinos helps make up for the ban on "Tiptoesaurus pansicus" that hindered WHEN DINOSAUR RULED THE EARTH (technically speaking, the chasmosaurus was the only non-fictitious actual DINOSAUR in the whole movie. Rhedosaurs, plesiosaurs, and pterodactyls don't count.). Don Chaffey was a better director of stop-motion films as well. The way the opening sequence in WHEN was shot looks very stagey.

When the film premiered in 1970, the wait seemed worth it as it garnered Oscar recognition.
