May 30 12 4:13 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Aside frome the "WTF" moments, I actually liked this fim a great deal. (It was also the first one I ever got to see in it's inital theatrical release.) There was something almost Lovecraftian in the scenes of Hedora at the base of Mt. Fuji, towering over the protesters almost like Cuthulu himself... This film also has an interesting aspect in that Godszilla and humans work together, at teh end, to get Hedora between those electrode plates, to fry his stinky butt to a fine powder... (Is it just me, or did that sequence remind anyone else of the ending of the Jonny Quest episode, "The Invisible Monster?" "[The audiance] will populate the darkness with more horrors than all the horror writers in Hollywood could think of. If you make the screen dark enough, the mind's eye will read anything into it you want! We're great ones for the dark patches." -VAL LEWTON

HEDORAH, it's one of my favorites of the series, and one of my favorite films period. There isn't anything else like it in the genre (much less any other film like it), and I loved Banno's approach. What can I say, you either love it, or hate it.

What can I say, you either love it, or hate it. I hated the P&S version. I really liked the widescreen print... right up until Godzilla flies. It doesn't kill the movie for me, but it sure hurts it.

THE SMOG MONSTER (I'm specifically referring to the AIP version dubbed by Titra) was actually released in letterbox on LaserDisc, many years ago. Sadly, that version (much less the dub) never got the DVD treatment.

Jun 5 12 12:22 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Some of the things that set this movie apart from the others: 1) I don't think any other Godzilla film has used 2-D animated sequences to link various sequences of the film together. It's almost like watching a Monty Python episode in this respect: the live action will be rolling along, then we cut to a cartoon of Hedora, or some other pollution generator in action... Then, back to the live action again... 2) You actually see people DIE in this one. Lots of them! They are either drowned in tar like sludge, or corroded to skeletons by Hedora's acid rain, generated by his passing. We haven't seen this level of explicit death in a G-film since the original. 3) This is the only G-film I can think of that had a "James Bondian" main title sequence, featuring oil projectors, fancy slit lighting, and a slinky lounge singer telling us all to "Save the Earth!" 4) This is the only time Godzilla flies.
