O.K., over the past few months, or so, I have been on a quest to get my mitts on those classic albums that should probably be in every music nerds collection. Now, one of the things that pisses me off is that these albums will show up in everybodies collection, and all of these yahoos will gush about the brilliance of these albums. IMO just because these albums should be in a collection does not mean that the music nerd has to LOVE the album. These albums, IMO, deserve a place in a collection just for what they meant to music, and should be pulled out from time to time, and not only listened to, but kind of studied my the nerd.
So, let's have a little fun. You get to post only ONE album to start with. It does not have to be your all-time favorite, or even one that you love. But with your post it should be mentioned as to why it deserves a place. "I love it" does NOT count. Example:
Sex Pistols - Nevermind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols. It is argued by many as to which albums was the first Punk album, this, the Ramones, or The Damned. While The Damned also argue that they were the first to have a Top 10 single, there is no denying that this album is the one that really launched the music revolution. It is also, IMO, an album that is misunderstood by a lot of the non-Punk crowds. Before I first heard it, in 1984 or so, I expected it to be a bunch of noise. In reality it is a very cohesive, very tight, and incredibly powerful album. The only aspect that might actually be in the frame of what one might expect to being "Punk" would be Johnny Rotten's voice. Even that, however, fits so perfectly with this music and lyrics, that even the snobbiest of vocal students would probably get into the angst ridden powerhouse. Is it my favorite from the Punk world? No. But the sheer importance of it cannot be over looked, and should be admired and studied.
So, something like that. Again, to start you can only post ONE album. If nobody hits another one you want in a bit, then go for it. But no aimless lists. Have a purpose, and show why you are a nerd and qualified to speak for other nerds!
