Does disco translate well to a straight WASP living in a country or suburban setting? Maybe. (It did for me.) Does it give multicultural urbanites a chance to shake off the seriousness of the lightning paced business world surrounding them, and just enjoy themselves dancing like crazy people? Usually. Donna excelled in this genre and beyond. And let's face it, who ELSE would be named 'The Queen of Disco"?

And in general support of disco - I was a kid during the disco era, so for me it's the music of my childhood without bias in regards to what was cool, or disco sux, or whatnot... I think it's just fine pop music.

I think it's happy, great, upbeat, fun dance music. Nothing wrong with that, and much nicer than what passes for music today. I think calling Donna "The Queen Of Disco" is very apt, and an honor. HOT STUFF is my very favorite Donna Summer song. Used to roller skate to it at my rink as a teen when it was popular. "Guy named Squeamy got thrown from the fifth floor. He's deader'n a mackerel."

Donna Summer, KC and the Sunshine Band, The Doors, Benny Goodman, and Joseph Haydn all sound dated. But the other acts have aged better, and to me are more listenable these days... I think that's because the music sounds actually played rather than programmed. But that's just my opinion, and I'm not slapping my forehead at your opinion. (Full disclosure- Even after what I just wrote above, I'd still listen to Donna Summer over The Doors. I don't really like The Doors... but it's not because of the music. However, that's a topic for another thread.) Lest you think I've got something against electro-disco per se, I absolutely love Kraftwerk. I think it must be Moroder I have a problem with... Anyway, I repeat what I said before-- Donna Summer had a fantastic voice, and I'm sorry she's gone.

But what I meant was that the very term "disco" -- to an average person -- has become, usually, a joke. Most references I've heard or read to disco in decades is that slogan "disco sucks." Whether I agree or not (and I don't), and whether pro DJs and hardcore music fans agree or not, I think that's what the average person thinks. "Disco sucks". Therefore, being "Queen of Disco" is automatically belittling -- to the masses. And not so much belittling, really, as limiting. I was just saying that Donna Summer had an incredible voice, and "Queen of Disco" limited her profile with the great mass of the unwashed.

It's very rare when I like a song so much that's very repetitious and seems to go on and on, but with I FEEL LOVE I could listen to it for an hour and enjoy it. I hung out in my share of discotheques since the early Seventies, way before Saturday Night Fever made them popular, and by the late '70s Donna Summer WAS the Queen of Disco, without a doubt. May 20 12 2:13 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	i am not big on disco.i infact have a problem with disco because it pretty much killed album orented creative rock and made dance music in some form or another t,usually annoying forms, what i hear more now.it definatly pushed progressive rock off the radio over time. having said that.i do occasionally enjoy listening to donna summer, andria true and gloria gayner because of the good singing voices. i was saddened to hear of donna summers passing. i am listening to a used 1979 donna summers greatest hits vinal album i got earlier this year right now.
