Yumi Shirakawa is in this scene that's being filmed in a baseball stadium, but her part was mostly cut out of the finished film. She's in it for a total of about 20 seconds, although she is prominently billed in the credits. The actor sharing the scene with her is Japanese baseball legend Kasuhisa Inao, MVP of the 1958 Japan Series and one of the greatest pitchers of all time. Yumi Shirakawa has always been a favorite of mine and it's odd she was in "Inao: Story of an Iron Arm" for just a few seconds. I too hope more of Ishiro Honda's films become available on DVD. It's amazing to me how many of his are still unavailable even in Japan. Also, I'm looking forward to you and Ed Godziszewski's book on Mr. Honda! I thoroughly enjoyed your "Japan's Favorite Mon-Star" book, and I'm sure this upcoming one will be just as informative.

May 16 12 9:38 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	gorgozilla, yer really gonna plotz while I momentarily pull this thread even farther afield from monsters (Honda, non-Honda or otherwise), but: For those generally interested in Japanese baseball or pre/postwar popular culture, I have to recommend a beautiful picture book called Sayonara Home Run, the Art of the Japanese Baseball Card by Gall & Engel, a treasury of cards & other amazing Japanese baseball ephemera from the 30s thru the 70s. The pleasure of the materials lies in their familiar yet very different visual treatments & history -- something you could also say about the way Japanese & US monster (kaiju) movies compare & contrast one another so delightfully. If so inclined, you should be able to get this volume really inexpensively by looking around online. Publisher is Chronicle, who also gave us August Ragone's Eiji Tsuburaya: Master of Monsters.
