Tim Burton is finally gearing up to get into production on Dark Shadows, his adaptation of a kitschy daytime soap about vampires, time travel and other bizarre plot contrivances that has proven to be a long time coming. Johnny Depp has been on board to star all the while, of course, and he’ll be playing the chief villain role of Barnabas Collins, saucy vampire. According to Deadline, Depp may be joined by Jackie Earle Haley and Bella Heathcote, both of whom are currently negotiating roles. Haley’s part would be that of Willie Loomis. In the original series he was a con man who comes to Collinwood, a New England Mansion that houses the kooky, spooky, ooky Collins family, and stumbles upon Barnabas, chained up in a secret room in the family mausoleum. Much soapiness, mild silliness and improved ratings ensued. Heathcote would be playing Victoria Winters, a young governess who was actually the lead of the show when it first began and will now, I assume, be the film’s protagonist also.
