May 8 12 11:24 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	With all the renewed interest in Dark Shadows right now, I decided to check out what all episodes were/are available on DVD. I see that MPI has this box set available for pre-order and it claims to have EVERY episode of the series. Does anyone know for definite if this is indeed the case? I assume so if it is what they claim, but I had always heard that at least a couple of the episodes were lost and not available in any format. I was a huge fan of the original series and was actually considering this set but wanted to ask before I shelled out $400+ for the set. Of course I imagine the price would go down eventually buy for this many episodes (and I think something like 130 discs) I imagine it is a fairly reasonable price as is. Anyway, anyone know for definite on if all episodes are really available and included? Sorry if this has been asked before.

One episode is lost, and is "narrated" by Lara Parker, with footage from surrounding episodes for illustration. And a few early-ish episodes exist only as filmed b&w kinescopes rather than tape (which I tend to prefer, actually -- they're visually quite interesting). But that's the extent of the incompleteness.

May 9 12 11:05 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	There are episodes available only as kinescopes occurring as late as the Spring of 1970, but they're very intermittent. One of my favorite episodes is the 2nd or 3rd show from the 1795 storyline and introduces the characters of Angelique and Countess Dupres, and it's available only as a kinescope, unfortunately. As Hall Lane points out, in some cases the grainy monochrome film of the kinescopes actually shoots the mood of what is shot in a given show. H.

May 10 12 5:45 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	That's right, the grainy monochrome puts me in mind of a Mexican vampire movie as glimpsed on late night tv, or something like that. And when you think that this is how most of the rest of the world viewed the show originally (and in parts of the U.S. as well -- the program was syndicated this way to stations during its original run; I caught an episode or two in the morning from an earlier timeframe when on vacation), then Barnabas' vast popularity becomes even more understandable. I hear he was a big hit in Spain.

May 10 12 10:39 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I have a handful of original Spanish-language kinescopes, and they're bizarre. Barnabas is dubbed by a basso-profundo, and I'd swear that at times the sound tech employed some "echo chamber" effects on his voice.
