In 2006, and again in 2007, I was asked by the editor of "The Thunder Child" web magazine to talk about the "Monster Kid" phenomenon (currently being discussed in the new Bob Tinnell documentary feature), the influence of Forry Ackerman on children of the time, the monster movie craze of the 1950's, as well as the profound influence of popular culture upon the impressionable baby boomer generation. This is a chronicle of a period of innocence in which a new stationary box began to infiltrate American homes...a flickering box that held a treasury of images ranging from "Flash Gordon" and "The Phantom Empire" to "Hopalong Cassidy" and "Space Patrol." It is my hope that these cherished memories of a bygone age may indeed provoke a few of your own.
