Hal: I have no problem telling them apart. Actually the behind the scenes story behind the making of the three films is often more interesting than the films themselves. One of the reasons CAPTIVE WILD WOMAN came out as good as it did was because of the director, Edward Dmytryk. Notable films he directed are THE CAINE MUTINY, MURDER MY SWEET, BACK TO BATAAN and THE YOUNG LIONS. Dmytryk also directed THE FALCON STRIKES BACK the same year as CWW.
Reginald LeBorg on the other hand was a very pedestrian director. He went on to direct DEAD MAN'S EYES, several Joe Palooka films and lots of TV shows. I blame him most for JUNGLE WOMAN turning out the way it did. Universal waqs famous for its monsters but he decided against showing the ape woman hardly at all. I really doubt he cared if it turned out good or bad, it was just a film he was assigned to direct. Shoot it and get on to the next movie. His decision not to show the ape woman hurt the film more than anything else.
The only thing JUNGLE CAPTIVE has going for it is Rondo Hatton and Pierce's ape woman makeup. But the ape woman is hardly used here. She doesn't do much and Vicky Lane looks and acts like a department store mannequin when she's Paula. Oh and there's no flashbacks.
