May 4 12 10:53 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I never read one of his bios, but I don have a copy of his co-authored "The Celluloid Muse: Hollywood Directors Speak" which had interviews with Hitchcock, Lang, Wilder, Frankenheimer, Robson, Tourneur, Vidor, Aldrich and a few others. One of the earliest such collections, came out around 1970.

Higham was a fraud (much like Boze Hadliegh, or however he spells his moniker). I met him once with Bill Self when we were having lunch at Musso & Franks. Bill told him I had written a bio on Chaney, which I added was very factual. This quickly put an end to our conversation.

Archives, Higham was persona non grata among the staff and archivists (e.g., the irreplaceable Ned Comstock) at the USC Cinema-Television Library. I've hated it since I found good pics razored out of film books in college, and have had opportunity for freshening that hatred as I've come across more missing files & missing items at the Lincoln Center library researching my CAROL book. -Craig

May 5 12 9:28 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The Lincoln Center file on CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON used to be thick. Over the years it got thinner. Last time I asked for it, it was empty. You're allowed to Xerox anything/everything but I guess that's too much trouble/too much of an expense, when you can just shove it all in your shirt or pockets or whatever. Monstuh fandumb -- ptooey.

Files, stills, books, even reels of microfilm have gone missing from Lincoln Center. REALLY pisses me off. But Higham wasn't alone as a primary pilferer. There's an east coast author of horror film books (not you, Tom) who allegedly has amassed quite a collection of stuff stolen from libraries and archives all across the country.

The stuff pilfered by the latter ended up in the hands of other collectors, but what do you wanna bet that the microfilm reels are now in a landfill? And probably withOUT ever having been looked at, post-pilfering. Pigs.

I passed on commenting because I didn't want to speak ill of the dead, but "blacken the names of dead people" This does seem like what many movie star biogs amount to. Some of what is put out as factual about intimate events of a better part of a century ago is just bizarre.

Don't Lincoln Center, the Warner Bros. Archives at USC, and the other places have ANY security practices at all? For example, Harlan Ellison has been known to frisk, or pat-down, strangers leaving his home. Now that MIGHT be too much for an archive to do, but don't they take ANY security precautions at all? By the way, to give the Warner Bros. USC archives their due, they once responded to some e-mails from me in a very quick, friendly, professional and accurate manner. When I TRY to show them my pile of papers or the inside of my bag as I'm leaving, they just waaaaaave me through. On the rare occasions when they DO take a fast look in my bag and see movie photos and DVDs (MY photos and DVDs), they ask "Izzat stuff yours?" and I say yes and they waaaaaave me through.
