I looked him up, and it looks like he is a bit of a loon and possibly has an escape plan for every single event possible. For example, one of the isotopes they ref is also of a very short half life and spends its radioactivity so quickly that it's largely no longer radioactive after 56 days or so. It's a scare piece, and the last thing I want to do is kibosh a good scare but they are nuts.

I always suspected all that China Syndrome nuclear meltdown nonsense was just a fevere dream product of a screenwriter's imagination. Thank you oh wise one for setting us all straight. Now I can get back to just hoping the Cubs do better this year.

Apr 28 12 5:53 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	By way of a reality check, I am not over impressed by the item from the Pacific Free Press for, if no other reason, it does not place the reality of the circumstances in Fukushima in total context before warning in a general way about "the end" and "a global catastrophe like we have never before experienced." For example, I read somewhere there's 100 metric tns of spent fuel at Fukushima, but pls note there are 65,000 metric tns of it in the US--15,000+ metric tns stored more or less like the stuff at Daiichi 4. And so far as I can see, "Mitsuhei Murata is professor of comparative civilizations at the Tokai Gakuen," and I would be slow to use his creds to advance my argument about the subject at hand. There is a real and "emergent response" type problem at Daiichi 4 but I doubt the responders are sitting around until ex-ambassadors or cloud journalism heps them. This is my thinking and I mean nothing personally about any personalities here. I think the smart When Worlds Collide solution is to safely store the world's supply of spent fuel and let the nuclear energy phase out over the next 20 years. But that would mean higher taxes, 'way higher energy costs and plenty of macaroni/cheese meals for everybody decades.

Apr 28 12 6:05 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I have a feeling if there really was an actual imminent global wide threat there would not be a whole lot of talk about it on the evening news, especially if there wasn't much that could be done about it. Any information that did manage to 'leak' out would quickly be attributed to nut jobs or worse. There really wouldn't be much point in starting a global panic. At least that's what my experience watching most fictional disaster stories has taught me.
