Apr 26 12 8:31 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The rules seems to change for vampires over the decades, and there are 2 issues I would like your opinions on: 1) Should a victim become a vampire just from being bitten and then dying ... or does it require a more complicated conversion process? 2) Should vampires be able to have sex ... real sex as the vampires in True Blood do... or should they be dead from the waist down? I have my own views but will wait to see what others think. Thanks, CR

The laws of vampirisim and the undead are flexible it seems, as some vampires aren't even in a death state. Besides, i'm glad it's applicable, otherwise i'd feel awful weird whenever I have thoughts about Vampirella or Ingrid Pitt

But what's the Dracula rule? In Stoker, Dracula kills a shipload of sailors, none of whom come back as vampires. But we see, when he is making nocturnal visits to Mina, that in once crucial scene he forces her to drink blood from his chest. I think the Stoker rule, which Anne Rice carefully followed, is that a vampire must be "made" -- through a deliberate process in which blood is drained from the victim, then at least partially replaced by vampire blood. That makes sense to me ... otherwise we'd quickly be overrun by vampires. Even vampires wouldn't want that!

It should take a deliberate process on the part of the vampire, as described by Stoker. 2) Vampires should be dead from the waist down. They are removed from normal physiological processes. Whether they have emotional attachments is another matter. But as to sex ... the act of drinking blood is powerful because it is a twisted metaphor for sex. That's really why the modest Victorians in Stoker's tale are so horrified by what the Count does, and why Mina calls herself things like "Unclean." It seems so wrong to me ... missing the point ... when modern vampires in things like TRUE BLOOD are able to "get it on" in the traditional way.

Apr 27 12 10:01 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I always thought that if Dracula sucked you completely dry, you die and did not become a vampire. But if he let you live and keep coming back to drink your blood over a period of time, he was acclimating you to become another vampire.

The deal with the sailors is a bit bothersome but I'll stay with the you get bit-die-come back. 2) Vampires should be dead from the waist down but that doesn't mean they can't seduce you - to some extent. p.s. Dracs daughter was created before Drac became a vampire. Then, he turned her. "I saw what I saw when I saw it!"

Apr 30 12 12:15 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The more I think about it, the more I think that there are just several species of vampires. The books and movies change the rules all the time. Some can walk in the daylight, others burn to a crisp. Some are warm-blooded, others are dead. Some have a conscience, others are animalistic. Vampires are probably the most difficult to define of all monsters. Zombies and werewolves are so much simpler :P
