Apr 23 12 7:16 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Thanks for posting the pic Giant Pacific Octopus, it is in my avatar folder, but for some reason I cannot post it here, strange. The picture is not from the Animal World, but I just don't know what it is from, but it's a great shot. The Dinos, or maybe Dragons look like they have a latex skin, maybe with polyfoam inside, but it is hard to say, I can't tell if that's cut foam, or poured foam inside the bottom of the big puppet, although it looks more poured. Apr 24 12 12:54 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The puppet on the left reminds me of the dinosaur in the Buster Keaton film THREE AGES (1923). The woman in the pic calls to mind the female animator who did the clay dino stop motion in that piece of film from THE LOST WORLD DVD special features. Don't know if it's actually the same person but it reminds me that there was a female stop motion animator out there around this time period. The puppet on the right, though... hmm, I just don't know. It looks vaguely familiar but I can't place it in any particular film. Maybe if we could compile a list of stilent films of the twenties that had dragons (which is what this looks like to me) or dinosaurs in them we might figure it out. Addendum: Poking around I found the name Helena Smith Dayton, who is said to be the first female stop motion animator. And she worked in clay. I wonder if that was her in THE LOST WORLD special feature or if that's her in the pic shown here? This info came from Wikipedia but only states that her first film was a stop motion ROMEO AND JULIET in 1917. What are the chances of another female stop motion animator working in clay circa the same time period of the footage shown on THE LOST WORLD disc? There is no IMDB listing for her nor is there a credit that I can find for special effects in THE THREE AGES. 2nd addendum: I see now that THE LOST WORLD footage is from MONSTERS OF THE PAST (variously reported as 1923 & 1928) and the animator/sculptress is Virginia May. I don't have the disc handy so can't make visual comparisons between her and the lady in the photo here. Another name I've just run across is Hermina Tyrlova, but she worked in the Czech Republic. Apr 24 12 5:37 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	My first thought was Beany & Cecil (!), and my second first thought was Karel Zeman's 1955 Czech movie A JOURNEY TO THE BEGINNING OF TIME (Cesta do pravěku), Bongo's kid movie. The dinos were seen at somewhat of a distance, and those big seams in the puppets don't look suited to too many closeups.

Apr 24 12 7:41 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	These puppets are definitely not from Cesta do praveku/Journey to the Beginning of Time. Karel Zeman was striving for paleontological accuracy in that film, and these -- as Bongo aptly put it -- "cartoonish" guys certainly don't fit that description. When I get home tonight, I'm going to dig out an old DVD I just thought about and take a look at it, but I really don't think it'll be a match. Also, I think I'll forward this shot onto a couple of acquaintances ... I'd love to get to the bottom of this!

THE LOST WHIRL (1926) or perhaps the unmade film, THE LOST ATLANTIS, where these beasts are made by Edward Nassour and Walter Lantz. Maybe it is for the KK parody THE LOST ISLAND, because these dinosaurs look like as if Wah Chang made them. Who knows.

Apr 24 12 8:27 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	They're not from The Lost Whirl -- I have a VHS of that film, and although the film is a comedy, the stop-motion dinosaur puppets (a brontosaurus-type and tyrannosaurus-type) were designed to be played straight. That's the thing about this photo -- these critters can't be for anything that was supposed to be taken seriously, such as the unmade Lost Atlantis ... they're just too intentionally comical. (That smiley face is for all the millions I expect to make on such a prestigious copyright infringement suit, to such a famous film.) Thanks to everyone for your suggestions, I am sure we will come up with the answer soon. I have also checked out the LOST WHIRL, and found the Bronto to be different. To Moviematt, good ideas, I have also checked out the LOST WHIRL, and found the Bronto to be different. I do not know the film THE SAVAGE, so I cannot comment, but THE LOST ISLAND was all marionettes and guys in suits, so I doubt it is from that. We have more than likely seen the puppets and animation from the Lantz/ Nassour version of LOST ATLANTIS in the film THE LOST CONTINENT, and I am pretty sure the puppets in that film are no where near the size of these. However we have not seen the Fred Jackman puppets, or at least we have only seen a few designs, so they could be from that version of LOST ATLANTIS, however I agree with Mr. Berry that the puppets are very cartoony, so they are probably not from a serious Dino film, perhaps they are from a children's film. Also these puppets I believe are the same character, one is just a close up head, which is strange considering how big the head is on the full puppet. Tim
