Apr 20 12 11:36 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	First we have the 12 chapter serial, "THE NEW ADVENTURES OF TARZAN" (1935) From this 2 features were made, "THE NEW ADVENTURES OF TARZAN" (1935) and "TARZAN AND THE GREEN GODDESS" (1938) The thing is that Green Goddess claims to be a sequel to New Adventures. How is this if they were both made from the same source? Also would that not mean the two must have different endings but some of the same scenes? Plus why were there two title cards for Green Goddess?

Apr 20 12 2:00 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Looks to me as tho it was re-released by a different distributor in the years after 1938. So different title cards. And it was a 12 chapter serial. You don`t have to use the ending for the complete serial in both films. If I`m remembering correctly, GREEN GODDESS has everyone kinda dressed like gypsies at the end. Apr 20 12 11:40 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The lower title card is from the original US release, and the upper title card is from the 1940 British reissue through distributor E.J. Fancey's New Realm Pictures. E.J. Fancey was somewhat notorious for recutting and otherwise tampering with his old releases (for example, he 'mashed up' parts of several Monogram Lugosi movies to create LOCK UP YOUR DAUGHTERS in 1959, and also chopped up old prints of SPOOKS RUN WILD and BOYS OF THE CITY to transform these into an 8-part serial titled SPOOKY HOUSE KIDS in 1961). TARZAN AND THE GREEN GODDESS was no exception; for the 1940 reissue, Fancey changed the title cards (altering Herman Brix's credit to read 'Bruce Bennett' in the process), added an on-screen warning about the 'poor sound quality of the movie' (!) and replaced the opening flashback sequence with travelogue footage from Guatemala. By 1950, Fancey obviously thought the sound quality was no longer acceptable at all and re-dubbed the entire soundtrack, with the resulting hour-long cut-down titled THANKS TARZAN and released through another of Fancey's companies, Do-U-Know Films [link]. At some point in the late 1950s, the titles from the 1940 New Realm release were then added to prints of THANKS TARZAN, so that audiences could see TARZAN AND THE GREEN GODDESS under its original title but with a whole new soundtrack. Fancey was a unique kinda distributor in Britain, that much must be said!

May 20 12 10:14 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Also see RETURN OF CHANDU (Serial), RETURN OF CHANDU (Feature from the first half of the serial) and CHANDU ON THE MAGIC ISLE (Feature from the second half of the serial). THE LOST JUNGLE: There is a lot of different footage in the feature not in the serial and a real ending that must have been filmed at the same time as the serial.
