Aug 7 08 7:25 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Okay, the fellow over at the Basement Sublet of Horror got back to me with some info and a copy of an article from one of the Wichita papers: BEAST FROM THE BEGINNING OF TIME was made around 1965 and financed by KARD Channel 3 as a made-for-TV movie that was never actually aired at the time of its production. It was written and directed by Tom Leahy, who also starred as "the beast," and is about two archaeologists (one good, one evil) who dig up a prehistoric man that goes into a murderous rage whenever he hears thunder. It's 58 minutes long, black-and-white, and was shot for $10,000. It eventually aired on Wichita TV near Halloween in 1981. Leahy was better known as The Host from "The Host and Rodney," the local horror movie show. The rest of the cast included Dick Welsbacher (from WSU's theater department), Webb Smith, Henry Harvey ("Freddy Fudd" kiddie show host), Chuck Kneisler, Ralph Seeley, John Froome, and Dusty Herring. Most of these folks were local TV personalities. According to the article from 1981, Leahy also shot color footage for another film called GREEN HELL FROM THE VOID that was never completed. Paul, did you look closer at pix 1 & 3 in the "complete gallery" link with which you've kindly provided us? -- one of the guys is sitting in a chair labelled "Tobe Hooper"(!). And no reason to think this is a fake. Going on the strength of these amazing pix, one may conclude that Texan Tobe may have been a teenage student in next-door Louisiana; looks here like he directed a Frankenstein-like home movie with some classmates -- that "soundstage" looks suspiciously like a high school auditorium. Whatever it may be, yeow!

Dec 28 08 7:27 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The mini-bio of Hooper at the Terror Trap website certainly states the following: "As a child, Tobe performed magic tricks for audiences who paid to see his act before finally turning his attention towards horror in his teens and making a series of 8mm films starring his high school buddies." Now there's a DVD extra I'd pay to see.

Im the kid pouring the Hersheys Syrup-Blood on the girl. A teenager on a mission... I lived in Baton Rouge a few years in my teens... Thanks alot for the links to images, this is way cool. Jan 1 09 4:15 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Arizona has some. NIGHTWING took place there, and was shot there as well. KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS (William Shatner) is absolutely AZ. PSYCHO starts in Phoenix, and DONOVAN"S BRAIN and THE LADY AND THE MONSTER takes place, but maybe not shot there. I'm pretty sure AIP shot some stuff near (in) Tucson- ATTACK OF THE GIANT LEECHES maybe? Colossal Caverns would have been the location.

Jan 1 09 11:37 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	This all reminds me of that little bit in one of the Forgotten Horrors books where they talk about teenagers circumventing the horror ban by making their own versions of FRANKENSTEIN and JEKYLL AND HYDE in like San Antonio or Dallas or something... it was an interesting little tale. Someone should make a movie about D.I.Y. monster-kids rebelling against the ban... And doesn't the Something Weird Video "Spook Show" DVD have a bunch of backyard home-made monster movies by kids in there somewhere? What's the back story on those clips?

Jan 2 09 2:04 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	AIP's ATTACK OF THE GIANT LEECHES was shot at a studio and at the Los Angeles County Arboretum. None of the 1950s AIP films were shot in Arizona, as far as I know. The later BAT PEOPLE may have had some scenes shot in AZ

The title I was thinking of being shot at Colossal Cave was THE INCREDIBLE PETRIFIED WORLD (with Carradine, 1960). Not sure how much footage from that location ended up in the movie, though. Bill, you may know a lot more about that than I do! I think I remember it being mentioned in interviews with Bri Murphy and Jerry Warren (a Weaver book I believe)? Where was Lemora: A Child's Tale of the Supernatural filmed? Let's Scare Jessica To Death would not count as regional becuase it was made hollywood personal and a hollywood studio. Lemora: A Child's Tale of the Supernatural was filmed in Southern California which is plainly obvious in many scenes even though it supposedly takes place in the deep south.

May 1 09 11:56 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Just watched The Creature From Black Lake and really enjoyed it for what it was. Interesting to see Dennis Fimple in a lead role. And, I feel they did the right thing with the Creature by not showing it too clearly, other than it's darkened form, too often. You'd think with all the advances in filmmaking, regional films would be more abundant now than ever before....
