Apr 17 12 3:06 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	So, issue 100 of G-Fan is coming up, and I'm putting together an article for it, in which I discuss what are (to me) the 100 most memorable moments in Toho science fiction and fantasy films. Note, these aren't necessarily the best moments, or classic moments, but scenes or events that stand out in your mind. I'm in the home stretch, with almost 90% of the list filled, but I'm still looking to fill the gaps. So I thought I'd look for inspiration here. There seems to be little love for DOGORAH THE SPACE MONSTER, but those scenes of roiling clouds -- the tentacles reaching down, seemingly from outer space -- and the bizarre electronic noise and "beat" Dogorah makes -- went beyond kaiju into cosmic Lovecraftian horror for me! That one miner trying to phone for help, with the Meganuron's shadow passing over him in RODAN. The short sequence of the Hiroshima scientists dismissing the single plane passing overhead as they examine the heart of the Frankenstein monster, the shot of the Enola Gay from ground level, and the blast in FRANKENSTEIN CONQUERS THE WORLD. Manda vs. Atragon in FINAL WARS. The teacher praising the roomful of psychic kids for drawing what they see in their visions -- and they all simultaneously lift up pictures of Godzilla, from G VS. BIOLLANTE. Bet you didn't expect to see VARAN anywhere, but I thought the "gliding" part was striking -- there is a sort of build up to it, as Varan seems to be preceded by a gale-force wind wherever he goes. Anguirus vs Ghidorah in DAM (and G VS. GIGAN) -- just because I had to mention Anguirus somewhere.

A brief scene I know but it mde a lasting impression on me. Rodan battling Godzilla toe-to-toe in Ghirdah, the 3-Headed Monster. Sadly it seemd like the later movies made Godzilla bigger or Rodan shrunk! In Godzilla Final Wars, the best looking Rodan to date, one of the best things I can say about it. Momoko Kouchi's reaction to the oxygen destroyer in Sarazawa's office, she was so believable.

Miners being pulled underwater in "Rodan". The hatchlings devouring the larvae in "Rodan". G destroys the sub in "KK vs G". G coming ashore in "KK vs G". King Kong tears down the wall in "KK vs G". King Kong transported via balloon in "KK vs G". G's unearthing in "G vs The Thing". Ghidrah's birth. Frank escapes in "Frank Conquers the World". Baragon attacks the nightclub in "Frank Conquers the World". Green Gargantua eats the sailors in "War of the Gargantuas". Green Gargantua reaches up from below to sink the fishing vessel in "War of the Gargantuas". The laser attack and rescue in "War of the Gargantuas". The final fight in "Destroy All Monsters". Not in a Good Way: The line, "I'm a cyborg!" in one of the MechaGodzilla flicks. "Lord I love Spring! The birds, the fair weather, the new flowers. It doesn't get any better than this. HOLY CRAP! what's THAT?!?"
