TV: Gunsmoke, Have Gun Will Travel, Big Valley (love Stanwyck), Little House on the Prairie (I count it!), Maverick. When I was younger I would watch any western. Movie: True Grit (2010), The Searchers, The Wild Bunch, The Proposition, Magnificent Seven, any with Eastwood, Shane, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, the Gunfighter, Pat Garrett, the Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, High Noon

MILER THE OX-BOW INCIDENT Not Really as Good, but I love 'em anyway OPEN RANGE NO NAME ON THE BULLET Everybody Thinks They're Great, But I don't quite get it HIGH NOON Spaghetti Westerns (They all, even Leone's, which are the best, just seem so silly to me.) I'm sure I'm forgetting some that I'll regret leaving out, but that's most of 'em. TV series -- MAVERICK far and away my favorite, then probably HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL. I loved YANCY DERRINGER but haven't seen it in about 50 years, so who knows? As for literature, I think the only western novel I've ever read was Shane by Jack Schaefer. I loved it. Oh, well, there's also O Pioneers by Willa Cather. It's a great book with a western setting, but not really what I'd call a western. Last Edited By: Rick Apr 17 12 3:21 PM. Edited 1 times.

Here's a list of my 20 favorites with not much of an order, except the first 3. He impatiently calls Kane stupid, then says: In the 5th century B.C., the citizens of Athens -- having suffered grievously under a tyrant -- managed to depose and banish him. However, when he returned after some years with an army of mercenaries, these same citizens not only opened the gates to him, but stood by while he executed the members of the legal government... A similar thing took place about 8 years ago in a town called Indian Falls. I escaped death only through the intercession of a lady of somewhat dubious reputation, and at the cost of a handsome ring that once belonged to my mother... (shrugs) Unfortunately, I have no more rings... Kane: But you're a judge -- Mettrick: I've been a judge many times in many towns. I hope to live to be a judge again. Most have already been mentioned like SHANE, HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER, THE SEARCHERS, HIGH NOON, etc. Let me add to the list MONTE WALSH with Lee Marvin, and THE GRAY FOX with Richard Farnsworth. Both are worth seeking out. It's criminal that GRAY FOX is STILL not available on DVD. Honorable mention - LONESOME DOVE - the original miniseries with Robert Duvall & Tommy Lee Jones "I ain't spittin on my whole life." - Monty Walsh "A professional never begs." - The Gray Fox "I don't like rude behavior in a man. I won't tolerate it." - Lonesome Dove
