Apr 12 12 10:22 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Back in 1975 Caedmon Records released a four-scene dramatization of Bram Stoker's DRACULA performed by David McCallum (of MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. fame) and Carole Shelley. This would have come just a year after the Dan Curtis/Jack Palance DRACULA (which had been popular), and two years after McCallum's appearance in the lavish mini-series FRANKENSTEIN: THE TRUE STORY. Never came across the recording until stumbling across a 1986 cassette reissue, done by Globe International as part of their "Globe Cassette Library" series. (In a bargain rack at a toy shop one Halloween.) This is a well-done presentation with the two performers carrying the show nicely, and I'm surprised it seems to have gone unnoticed. (Wish someone would reissue it on CD.)

(Although, longtime Hardy Boys reader that I was, I found myself tuning in more to catch Pamela Sue Martin's Nancy Drew rather than hear Shaun Cassidly sing his latest hit while solving crime.)

The set also contains an hour's worth of FRANKENSTEIN read by James Mason, an abridgment of THE STRANGE CASE OF DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE read by Sir Anthony Quayle, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" read by Ed Begley Sr., some nautical ghost stories read by Douglas Fairbanks Jr., and "Berenice" and "The Gold Bug" read by Vincent Price. The Price selections are also available on THE EDGAR ALLAN POE AUDIO COLLECTION.

(Really brought back some memories, as those old Caedmon recordings by Price and Rathbone were used by a number of English teachers back during my school days.) Will try to track down a copy of the HORROR set. The set also contains an hour's worth of FRANKENSTEIN read by James Mason I remember our local library had an old LP of James Mason reading 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA (which I think was also a Caedmon release.) I think it was the early Eighties when I stumbled across it, and never knew it existed prior to that. (Somewhere around here I have a 20,000 LEAGUES album released by Disneyland Records. The album cover used the same art found on the old 8mm reel of highlights from the film's squid fight that was put out by Disney's home movie division.) Last Edited By: BijouBob8mm Apr 25 12 8:46 AM.
