Apr 7 12 2:10 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I got this the other day, although the street date is April 24, thanks to a local store that loves to jump street dates. Anyway, the extras are interesting. One episode, "Die Now, Pay Later," filmed during the second season, was only seen in syndication, never on network TV. Well, the syndicated version was altered from the prepared but never broadcast network edition. For the DVD, they reedited the syndicated version to make it conform to the network edition as much as possible, bearing in mind that they couldn't find the original network version in the vaults at Universal. Also, a rather poor vignette from Season Two, "Witches' Feast," which they couldn't find when they put out the Season Two DVD, is here as well, along with some other goodies. There's also an Easter Egg that contains a bit of behind the scenes footage, with an assistant director, or whoever he was, holding a slate in front of Rod Serling before he goes into his spiel for that particular episode. Not the most exciting Easter Egg in the world, but interesting anyway. Commentaries by Scott Sketon and Jim Benson, who wrote the excellent ROD SERLING'S NIGHT GALLERY: AN AFTER-HOURS TOUR, are also included for certain episodes. So I've ordered it from the US Amazon instead. Really need to finish my season 2 set... Edit: Now I see third party sellers ARE offering it on Amazon, but Amazon still isn't. Very odd. I called AmazCA about a month ago and they told me that they are required by law to have a certain amount of Canadian content for sale so they can't sell everything that's available on AmazUS.

Apr 8 12 12:59 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Wow, they finally found Witches Feast? amazing! I remember that the vignette was never even aired when it was supposed to be back in the day. It's had an odd history from such a paltry little thing. By accident I happened to own a paperback that had the old short story (from the 1920s or 1930s, maybe even older) that had the incantation in it that the Witches recite during the episode. There was another vignette that was missing and showed up on Youtube. I think it might have been the joke about the skullface on the elevator removing his head because a lady has walked in. I wonder whether this will show up on Netflix? Thanks, H.

I hope they redo the first season to make it consistent with these releases. http://www.nightgallery.net/index.html?title.html&0 Never understood the point of easter eggs on dvds. Seems counterproductive because they dont advertize the extras, and who has the time or patience to look for them after wading thru previews, warnings, and the damn animated menus (like the Star Trek menus).

I'm pretty sure this one was included with the Pickman's Model episode of Night Gallery when I watched it on Hulu a couple of years ago. It's such a striking image that I remembered it instantly when I read your comment. James

To be fair, along with the misleading 'Night Gallery" setup, "Sixth Sense" was cut down from 55 to 25 minutes, so it never got a fair shake in syndication. If they ever redo NightGallery Seas1, a cool extra might be all the Serling intros to the edited "Sixth Sense" shows. The "Sixth Sense" series should be released in its original hour format and original credits (in my opinion). They exist, and almost all of them were available as Amazon/Itunes downloads (listed, confusingly, under "Night Gallery").

Apr 9 12 8:44 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I watched The Sixth Sense when it was originally aired as an hour series. The stories were very uneven--some were more deftly written and performed than others. A friend explained to me that the Sixth Sense was the result of a whole series of failed pilots, starting as early as 1964 or 1965 I think, with different formats and performers. The last one was aired as a TV movie around 1971--I think the title was Rachel, sweet Rachel--and had a middle aged psychic investigator who had a blind assistant. It's too bad the casting was changed because the duo made for a more interesting set-up than Gary Collins, who I enjoyed but, let's face it, was very bland. When 6th sense episodes started showing up a few years later as Night Gallery installments, I was very confused. It was a bad idea all around--the tone of the Sixth Sense was very earnest and did not really match at all with the tone or style of Night Gallery, and the stories were filmed as 50 minutes, cut down to fit a half hour slot for syndie. I'm amazed they got Rod Serling to film intros for these at all. It's too bad that most fans will likely never have the interest to go back and watch the original full length 6th sense episodes; some of them were worth watching, at least for those who enjoy the peculiar style of 1970s occult drama. Some of the long-lost ABC Wide World of Mystery stories had a similar flavor, from what I can recall. H.

But I have to admit I'd probaly at least take a look at a boxset of the series, along with the Serling openers as an extra (and perhaps a doc to explain how the heck it all came about and how it got tagged into NIGHT GALLERY).

One of the impressions I got of him, reading the first biography about 20 years ago, was that after TZ, he seemed to enjoy getting as much face time on camera as possible. I forgot the game show he hosted (Liar's Club?), but that would seem to be a clue that he was happy being a celebrity/personality. Even given his antipathy to aspects of the NG production, I get the feeling it wouldn't have taken much coaxing to get him in front of the camera for a quick paycheck. Just got the ship notice on this set from Amazon. Even though I still haven't watched more than half of Season 2 (the best one too, imo) I'm very happy this series will be finished, complete and sitting on shelf by the end of the week. I see the weaknesses in the material more clearly now, but it will always hold some intrinsic nostalgic appeal for me.
