I also like the lead actresses of those movies, especially in the 1940s! I like for you all to tell me who is your favorite horror or mystery film lead actress of the 1940s! It could be based on anything from thier acting ability to thier beauty to how well they dressed! Tell me who is y'all favorite! Who is your favorite horror actress of Universal Studios in the 1940s? Ramsay Ames is probably the most beautiful (but the poor thing can't act at all), Ilona Massey is the sexiest, Virginia Christine has the one truly great scene among all of them. But...when I was a little Monster Kid, sitting around making lists of who was in the most monster movies (Boris, Bela, Vincent, Lon Jr., Christopher, etc.), only one lady ever had enough credits to crack the list and that was Evelyn Ankers. Plus, she may be the best combo of beauty, hotness, and talent. When I was 11 or 12, all those others were random beauties, but Evelyn Ankers was a Monster star. So I go with Evie.

Anne Gwynne had her share as well: with Boris in BLACK FRIDAY, Bela in THE BLACK CAT, Lon in WEIRD WOMAN, John Carradine and Lionel Atwill in HOUSE OF FRANKENSTEIN.

And she still had WEIRD WOMAN, JUNGLE WOMAN, INVISIBLE MAN'S REVENGE, PEARL OF DEATH, and FROZEN GHOST ahead of her (not to mention CRAZY HOUSE and TARZAN'S MAGIC FOUNTAIN.) In the numbers game, at least, Evie is the queen bee.

My personal favorite of these actresses would have to be Evelyn Ankers, prehap because I seen her in more films than other I posted! I am just in love with Evelyn! She acted with Lon Chaney, Jr. Lionel Atwill, Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi...and held her own with all of them! "E" Your Signature ... "....I do hope he won't upset Henry..."
