To continue to survive in this economy and dwindling readership for classic horror zines, we are looking at making some changes with LSoH and would like some feedback on some of the changes being considered.
-considerable drop in page count
-no more fanzine and book reviews
-cutting the letter column to one or two pages.
-no more Hammer news or music reviews
-discontinue the History of Horror Fanzine articles
-fewer interviews and articles
-going to one issue a year, from two.
Know that these are changes we don't want to make. But our switch of printer and our distance from them, has added considerably to our costs. And sales haven't grown enough to cover the jump in costs. LSoH is what LSoH is....if we were covering Karloff and Lugosi, we would be more popular in the U.S.A. But Hammer and British horror is seeing a falling off of interest in the states.
We'll keep plugging along, but your input would be appreciated for what steps we take next. (for example - MONSTERS FROM THE VAULT and UNDYING MONSTERS normally run 64- 66 pages of text. We did 20 pages of reviews and letters in our current issue before we even got to our main articles and interview.)
I was told by one distributor I'm giving too much content for our cover cost, than our competitors.
