Whoever finds it will ensure the story is carried by all the news channels. I can assure you, you wouldn't have to check this thread to find out. We knew there were prints of various edits all over the world, there was hope with a film like Metropolis. LAM on the other hand we know MGM was really good at keeping track of prints and keeping them under lock and key. With LAM we are pretty certain that the last and only copy went up in flames.

That is absolutely correct. The METROPOLIS print was, apparently, Fritz Lang's own personal 16mm print. The reason nobody ever checked is because every archive already has METROPOLIS in their collection (often in 16mm), and nobody ever imagined that yet another 16mm print would be the uncut original.
