I have a Rent Stabilized apartment, and, while the price is still good for Manhattan, it's just about doubled in the 16 years I've lived there, even with the limited increases. And it's a lot more than $285. Back in the '80s I worked with a guy who'd lived in the same Rent Controlled apartment since the early '50s. He paid $25 a month for a two-bedroom, second-floor, high-ceilinged, hardwood-floored place in the heart of the West Village. Who says NYC is expensive?

There was a woman on the ground floor of my old apartment in the East 20's during the same era as the guy you mentioned, who was paying $50-$60 bucks for a nice place. -Craig

I'll be happy to pay $12.50 a month! (I wonder what an immaculate room in an elegant Bowery hotel goes for these days? Do they get a higher class of mice, roaches, drunks and schizophrenic loners there?)

Well, the one I have here is MY book. I can tell because Zach wrote something very nice in it. Rich did too. Great book, guys! My question: When The Cool Ghoul left Roland and Philly behind, there is mention of someone else taking over the role of Roland on Ch. 10. Did this ever happen? How could it? I can't imagine tuning in to see Roland and it's some other guy!
