Most fans agreed before its launch that it wouldn't stand a snowball's chance in hell, and they were right. DIVX never really got off the ground much (thank goodness) and was nowhere near as promoted as CDs and Streaming were. (Only Circuit City really got behind it, for what seemed like a day or two). Streaming, CD, and DVD were all at least liked and welcomed by the fanbase. DIVX wasn't, not even a little bit. So yeah, there has to at least be some interest.

Just beating the dead horse that streaming is a win of convenience for some consumers, but a win, win, win for studios who never liked permanent, theatrical-quality presentations in the hands of consumers to begin with, nor like the heavy lifting of manufacturing and distributing product. I can't blame them if people will pay for them to have their cake and eat it too. In many ways the studios are kind of in trouble. Theater attendance is down and disk sales are down and catalog doesn't sell well anymore, they gotta scramble for something. Who knows, if they really get desperate enough, maybe they'll give making better movies a try.

Well, I'm with you 110% on that one, pn.
It chafes me no end that in a format hailed as The Best Ever, producers choose to cheese out and compress unnecessarily - it's like the digital equivalent of LP Mode VHS!

I feel like what we see playing out now is a trend that began to truly take shape in the late 70's. A switch from variety, to heavy investment on fewer films aimed at broader tastes. For the time being the industry that gave birth to low-rent AIP quickies, and had room for Corman, Romero, and Euro-imports is pretty-much dead. In a way the studios sold their blockbuster, multiplex concept too well, now that's all they dare make, and no one cares about the stuff they've made in the past.i definatly prefered going to movies before all movies being blockbusters was what was expected in the pre-jaws days.the movie going experence had more variety and was more fun.
