Mar 2 12 11:49 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Someone on the Home Theater Forum has posted a list of the next batch of MGM MOD discs. Of most interest to this forum: PHARAOH'S CURSE and the AIP astronaut comedy SERGEANT DEADHEAD. Other titles include, among others, VICE RAID with Mamie Van Doren, Daniel Haller's PIECES OF DREAMS, Gordon Hessler's PRAY FOR DEATH and THE SIEGE OF FIREBASE GLORIA. Not sure what the source for the information is, since the titles aren't up for pre-order at Screen Archives or the Warner Archives site yet. Mar 3 12 12:00 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I just recently re-watched SERGEANT DEAD HEAD. What a rotten movie. With the cast that it has, you'd think (if you were a fan of those people), "It CAN'T be TOO bad" -- and it's directed by Norman Taurog, an Oscar winner. Oh, it IS that bad -- and worse. It goes from service comedy to astronaut comedy to sci-fi comedy (Frankie Avalon and a monkey trade personalities on a space flight) to tacky sex comedy, with a bunch of crummy songs (including one sung by Eve Arden), and some Buster Keaton schtick, and not one second of it is funny. The missile base exteriors were shot at a brand-new, not-yet-operating prison.

Mar 3 12 12:26 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	THE SIEGE AT FIREBASE GLORIA is an outrageous and silly Vietnam war film. The PHARAOH`S CURSE is like THE THING THAT COULDN`T DIE. You think something cool is gonna happen and it ends 30 seconds later. I liked the film when I first saw it 40 years ago but, boy, was I ever disappointed in the ending. Mar 3 12 1:06 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I like PHARAOH'S CURSE even though when I was a kid I was upset there was no Mummy and yes the ending leaves a lot to be desire but the film has it's moment including some spooky atmosphere. PRAY FOR DEATH may not be great but still one of the better 1980's Ninja films starring Sho Kosugi who rose to b-movie martial arts fame by playing Franco Nero's rival (the Black Ninja) in ENTER THE NINJA. A lot of R. Lee Ermey's dialogue is hysterically over the top. The scene in which he sternly lectures the troops while carrying around two severed human heads is a jaw-dropper. PHARAOHS CURSE is also a film ive always wanted to see, thanks to the one usual makeup still that has been published over the years - can someone post it here?

Never expected a great film, but I thought it would be fun in a BEACH PARTY sorta way. Nope.

It hasn't been remastered, so, yes, it will be the same transfer that was nixed for the Midnite Movies release. Standards are lower for MOD. I have a VHS copy; it's not up to today's standards, but doesn't look bad. It is full frame. There's some noise on the soundtrack, but it might just be that my tape--and VCR--are old. Concerned fans can always wait for reviews.

They *are* showing up in ClassicFlix, though that service is more expensive and slower than Netflix. Netflix does offer PHARAOH'S CURSE as well as other MOD titles (like BLACK SLEEP) on its instant streaming service. The image quality on the BLACK SLEEP MOD is superior to that of the streamed version.
