This lady had a very long and (I presume) good life. You can't beat that. I'm a firm believer that once you hit 80 you're a lucky person and the rest is all gravy. I mean, we've got to go sometime. Feb 21 12 5:21 AM Burgomaster Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I thought Elyse Knox was one of the most beautiful of the '40s Universal starlets. You can't blame Turhan Bay's character for slipping. That little montage of shots of the fetching Knox that goes through his mind could make even the stoutest high priest go astray. Too bad she didn't do more genre films. I agree that when one of the surviving players from any of the Universal classics leaves us, it seems like an extra sad loss for us. One less tie with that era still around. I gave some thought to giving her death a special banner, but with the Rondos and Presidents day and the fact that she only made one horror film, I decided against it. Feb 21 12 7:56 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Just last week I put up a MUMMY'S TOMB lobby card as wallpaper on my work PC monitor, and I thought about the lovely Elyse - I knew that she was still with us (then), but wondered about her health, etc. Sad to see that just a few days later she left us. Even tho she only made the one genre film, she'll be seen forever on the TVs of monster kids everywhere. Heck, I bet she's being carried off by Kharis even as I type this, somewhere...

Feb 21 12 9:04 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	She was also in the Universal serial DON WINSLOW OF THE COAST GUARD which finally came out on DVD (from VCI) the day before she died. I should get a-hold of it and look it at, but (a) it's a Universal serial (I'm kind-of allergic to them), and (b) all her scenes might be in an office or something, a la Jennifer Jones in DICK TRACY'S G-MEN (and 100 other examples). The villain is Nestor Paiva as The Scorpion. And Knox was supposed to be in NIGHT MONSTER, as Millie the murdered maid, but was replaced. That would have given her a scene with Lugosi. Her cutest story about MUMMY'S TOMB was that a tiny feather from her nightgown got inhaled by Chaney as he carried her, and shooting had to be stopped because it was tickling and driving him crazy. Where were the behind-the-scenes cameras then? I'd love to see Kharis trying to blow a feather out of his nose.

Feb 21 12 5:50 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I only remember her as an actress from THE MUMMY'S TOMB. A very beautiful lady. RIP. I had no idea she was married to Tommy Harmon, Michigan's old #98. Her passing reminded me of Harmon and of the Sept 28, 1940 game against Cal in which Harmon broke loose on an 86 yard touchdown run, basically making the entire Cal defense miss. As Harmon swept past the befuddled Cal safety and approached the end zone, he encountered Cal's "twelfth man," a pot-bellied, bald, middle-aged drunken fan who came out of the stands to tackle him. What happened can be viewed at youtube under "Cal fan tries to tackle Harmon." One of the great sports moments. *Off the film, the drunken fan's tackling technique would have fitted him in pretty well with the Cal defense.
