One of the most fascinating, fun and unpredictable categories in each
year's Rondos are the Independent Film or Documentary and the Short
Film categories.
This year, we've split them into three:
-- Independent Film
-- Short film
-- Documentary film
It's a tough segment because release dates are squishy -- some films are shown at festivals but don't get on DVD or theaters until years later. Others are only shown at conventions. And when indie films 'make it,' like Stake Land or Troll Hunter, we move them to the Best Film category.
So it can be a little haphazard, to say the least. But isn't that what 'indie' is all about?
The bottom line is that these projects, like the magazine and book and commentary categories, are often the pure essence of what horror fandom, and the Rondos, are all about.
So we hope folks take the time to check out the 'indie' categories. Each nominee has a video link that takes you to a trailer or sometimes the entire film. This is one category where you can actually sample everything!
Anyways, just hoping all are aware of the VIDEO LINKs, and for sure it's a great way to while away a few minutes checking them out. Whether by teenagers or on the verge pros, we think all have that 'Monster Kid' spirit.
And hoping, too, folks can discuss the indie nominees here as the Rondo voting rolls on...
