This may not have a lot of appeal to the CHFB crowd but BearManor's about to come out with my (gulp) 23rd book, this one a passel of interviews with veterans of Westerns which I originally did for WESTERN CLIPPINGS magazine. There's a long Q&A with Fess Parker, Charlotte Austin (FRANKENSTEIN 1970) talks about her dad Gene Austin's one Western and her own Westerns, June Lockhart remembers guesting on lots of top Western shows, writer-producer Andrew J. Fenady gabs endlessly about THE REBEL, Pat Fielder talks about writing for THE RIFLEMAN, William Phipps recalls some wild times making a Western with John Agar in the Philippines(!), Ann Robinson talks about her debut in an indie short made by cowboy star John Carpenter, Gary Clarke recalls THE VIRGINIAN, the actress-widow of John Hart reminisces about Lon Chaney Jr.'s shenanigans on HAWKEYE AND THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS, Lisa (QUEEN OF OUTER SPACE) Davis has some great yarns about her two Westerns, Robert Colbert talks about MAVERICK and other Warners series, Robert Clarke remembers his RKO Westerns with Tim Holt et al., blah blah blah. (Yeah, they're mostly people who are better known for their sci-fi credits; funny how that worked out!) I'd like to think it'll be out in the next few weeks. End of shameless self-promotion.
