I've looked at hacks that apparently downgrade the system back to 3.5.x or something like that. I'm at 4.x at this point. I could do that but what else is going to break when I do? It isn't elegant and seems intrusive to the OS to do this. then I have issues with compatibiility with netflix and the playstation store etc. - they do this I suspect to keep you updated. I don't think that is a long term fix. The right answer is : Release these to the REGION A market. My guess is that they will but - when? "I saw what I saw when I saw it!"

Apr 5 12 3:26 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I'm region B and so have been lucky enough to access the few Hammer blu-ray releases there have been. That said, I have enormous sympathy for those denied these films by this ridiculous, maddening bloody system. I myself have been pissed off in the past when films I'd really like to see are made available in the region A market but not here in the UK. I do have a multi-region DVD player which I bought back in the day to get round these problems but, in the now time-honoured fashion of modern technology, its currently useless, or at least very limited, in the world of region-coded hi-defintion. I balk completely at the expense and, indeed, the idea of another multi-region player. In truth, I utterly despise the whole region code business altogether. Its weird, I suppose, given that back in the day we'd wait for months or years for a particular movie to show up on TV and this was something we'd just sort of accept. Now, in these days of enormous choice and accessibility, it drives us crazy not to have what we want when we want it. But dangling the gems in front of us the way the modern home film market does, especially when you're a film fan with your ear to the ground, only to be denied because of what territory you live in, is infuriating.

Apr 6 12 8:12 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	When I went to an electrical store to enquire about buying a multi regional player I was told that the regional system is all about price control, i.e. companies retaining the power to charge more for products in certain countries even though the same goods are sold cheaper elsewhere. I buy a lot of R1 discs from the States for simple reason that they are cheaper than R2. I can save money even with the postal charges. I guess people in other parts of the world must do the same thing.

Apr 6 12 9:15 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The REGION code as I understand it is about WHICH COMPANY has the license to sell in a particular region. For example, HORROR OF DRACULA to be sold in the US is a Warners title as is CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN. That isn't the case or is likely NOT the case in Europe. Thus the region codes and the control this places on distribution. My question is - what's the problem if a film like HORROR OF DRACULA is being remastered and all that is needed is someone to take the dang digital copy of this film, fill out the proper paperwork or what have you, and release it? ALL Studios are very risk averse and I am sure they don't want to press 50,000 copies of HOD and only sell 10,000. I get that. But then that is why Made on Demand would be a great way to do this to limit their risk. I am probably over-simplifying this. But I do understand the region issue but if the heavy lifiting of restoraation has been done you'd think this was a no-brainer. Obviously not. If someone has some real insight into these issues I would love to hear it. Preferably someone from Warner's. "I saw what I saw when I saw it!"

There are very few 1990s films, and even fewer from the current century, that I am interested in owning. Still I probably will wind up getting one of the "Blu" things once my current Philips goes to that great junkyard in the sky. I have been told that Blu Ray players also play DVDs. If they don't make Blu Ray players that are multi-region, I'll be less likely to make the switch. cheers, H.

HD masters of pre 90's titles reveal as much information stored in the 35mm negative as anything post 1990. <<Still I probably will wind up getting one of the "Blu" things once my current Philips goes to that great junkyard in the sky.
