Are recent Region B/Region 2 UK-produced Blu-Rays and DVDs in the PAL format, or has that gone by the wayside in the last few years? I haven't heard good things about PAL.

I haven't heard good things about PAL.The UK region B encoded Blu Rays run the same speed as NTSC. The Pal/NTSC speed discrepancy doesn't apply to the Blu Ray format.

I'll put up with a PAL DVD if a film is either unavailable or cut in NTSC. Blu-rays don't concern themselves with PAL or NTSC on HDTV, luckily. I'm ordering me an LG hardware-modded region-free Blu-ray player today, and then chip away at my region-locked import Blu-ray list! Here's the player I'm getting, which will also convert PAL DVDs to NTSC on the fly: http://www.world-import.c...time-video-converter.htm

Although rights to the later films seem to have been bought up by other parties (resulting in all those Anchor Bay releases), the rights to the original classics still, I believe, rest with Warner Bros. in the United States. So, any blu-ray release in Region 1 - even one for a restored DRACULA - would have to originate with them. (So, for the "Big Three," it's not a case of the new Hammer looking for "a U.S. partner/distributor" - the new Hammer doesn't actually have rights to them in the USA).

The recent restored UK DVD box sets of the Avengers featured all the colour Diana Riggs with the wrong audio speed, luckily the megabox set has the correct audio pitch.
