Jan 12 12 8:56 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I first heard about this film in some random one shot magazine that had several great shots from the film including the great transforming spider lady and the glowing eyed reaper Ron mentioned. On paper,it looked like the greatest monster mash of all time. The film didn't quite live up to my imagination but was still fun. I remember that magazine had naked pictures of the girl from COMPANY OF WOLVES that I hid from my mom for awhile haha. The magazine is long gone but the fold out poster of Sybil Danning survived! (And the SPOOKIES Reaper is on the back in full color).

It had so much going for it that other movies at the time didn't. I think the only things holding it back was the over acting and a lack of boobs. If it had been as over the top as something like EVIL DEAD,it would have a much wider fan base and people would still be talking about it today alongside the greats of the 80's. As it is,it certainly has more cool monsters than just about anything of the era (or any era for that matter) and feels like you are watching someone using an old Eerie publication as a shooting script.

Someone, a fan or the filmmakers (I'm not sure) thought there was too much going on so they edited it and made a different movie. I remember this because I have the VIPCO UK DVD and wasn't too impressed with the movie as a whole.

You can piece it all together by reading these two articles. You can piece it all together by reading these two articles. I read the second article awhile back and it is an interesting history of how this film came about. SPOOKIES as it is certainly comes off as two films slapped together, especially the bits with the weird cat guy who does not really having any interaction with the characters visiting the mansion, and the prolonged zombie chase ending. Still I like the diversity of monsters here enough to overlook some of the disjointed filmaking, and can appreciate the effort they made in piecing the whole thing together. I caught this on VHS in the late '80s mostly due to the lurid Richard Corben cover art below which unlike a lot of schlock/horror posters actually delivers on what you see on screen.

Yes i do and we've had some real zingers over the last several years (DEADLY SPAWN and THE BEING being two fun low budget ones). TROLL 2 did rear its head here within the last year. It's funny enough as a straight ahead junk film but man oh man,i can't take the overblown "WORST MOVIE EVER" bandwagoning that gos along with it. I have never seen this movie, and I have to say my mind is exactly where Rob says his would be! LOL!!! I need to find this one. I remember that video box sitting on the shelf at my old video store, VIDEO CORNER, but I was burned by soooo many boxes, that this one must have been one I just walked buy. This film was made in New York, and Buechler works out of LA. I met a young woman at a party in Brooklyn who was working in the art department on this film back in the day, but I've never seen it.
