It's credited at the end but, really, you guys couldn't write a short, :45 original cue? Just like something Quentin Tarantino would do.

There's a marvelously testy audio interview with him asked about re-use in the nicest terms, and he just explodes. "That's ridiculous! Every composer has a sound! It's stupid!" Well, no, Bennie, it's a fact. One of the themes in PSYCHO, for instance, is something he wrote 25 years before & recycled. The main theme for MARNIE is simply the love theme from 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD at a slower tempo. And on and on. It's not fun when you're caught in a sticky pit of hypocricy.

It's also basically the tune Hayley Mills sings in ENDLESS NIGHT. In his self proclaimed "love letter to Bernard Herrmann" Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street Stephen Sondheim references that same melody for The Worst Pies in London. I'm a huge Herrmann fan - and I've always thought it was interesting for THE TROUBLE OF HARRY - his all-important first collaboration with Hitchcock - instead of composing a brand spanking new score he pretty much cobbled together themes he had used a year or so earlier for the Crime Classics radio series. It makes me wonder if Benny thought the initial teaming with Hitch was that big of a deal, in his mind at least.
