First, let me be the first to wish everyone here a healthy, happy, and prosperous New Year.
Although I am not far from NYC I have never attended the Times Square Ball Drop. Usually the new year is ushered in in front of the t.v., maybe with one or two close friends. Lately, it is ushered in with snores since we can't keep our old eyes open. But, today we started what is a real tradition---------cleaning up, straightening up, and getting those odds and ends out of the way. We always do this, and it is kind of a getting rid of old junk to start off on the right foot. I shredded bags and bags of paper--you know the junk you accumulate in the year: insurance papers for cars you no longer own, scraps of paper with phone numbers that belong to" mystery" people you don't remember, write ups from contractors you never hired last summer. Then, I got my husband to change light bulbs. This is something I am scared to do because the bulbs are in a cathedral ceiling and you need a special pole and a steady hand. I donated clothes to my favorite charity; I spent most of the year hoping they would fit or come back in style (neither happened). Tomorrow, the car goes in for service on a pesky seat heater that just warms and doesn't really heat. Finally, I have lentils ready for a 12/31 meal. I can hear most of you saying "Yuck", but my old granny always insisted on lentils on 12/31 for good luck in the new year. (anyway, I like 'em!!!)
As I was doing all this, I wondered what all of you are doing for the New Year. Do you have any special traditions or superstitions you like to follow?
