Jul 28 12 2:55 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I've been slowly working my way back through the series in order since the new GODZILLA Blu ray, and finally got to this last night. My favorite, and one of my youth touchstones in its GODZILLA VS. THE THING form, so I watched the old Simitar disc, as the cropped Classic Media version remains my most UN-favorite DVD release of all time. So I'm wondering: Has any enterprising type out there ever managed to take the full scope Japanese print and the Simitar and do a re-edit with the AIP THING soundtrack? I know something similar was done in reverse for KK vs. G. to give us the best possible looking version of the Japanese original. I'd LOVE to get a copy of this if anyone has. If not, I'm not sure I have the right programs, time, or ability, but I may just have to try to undertake this myself as I seriously doubt we'll ever see a proper enhanced full scope version of GODZILLA VS. THE THING, and I think it could be done. Just a few of the old Simitar letterboxed scenes (or cropped ones from the CM one more likely since the image would have to un-squeeze otherwise) would be in the final version. SAM33

Nov 26 12 7:30 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Question- So I've had another look at the Japanese version on the CM disc (I hadn't watched it since the disc came out) and even it is a disappointment - soft with lots of interlacing artifacts. Is this the best version available anywhere, or do the Japanese or some other foreign discs have better PQ (not counting Blu ray, I think this is out in Blu in Japan)? From what little research I've done, there seems to be no very good transfer available, even the Blu. Opinions? SAM33

Nov 27 12 12:59 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Time for this classic to be properly remastered for Blu-ray in the correct aspect ratio, with the complete GODZILLA VS. THE THING version as well as the original Japanese cut. Both cuts are essential, though personally I'd only watch the American version of this. I still have my Simitar disc, and even though it ain't anamorphic and is riddled with compression artifacts, it's still better than the seriously compromised Classic Media debacle.

The Blu rays of GODZILLA VS MOTHRA and SPACE GODZILA are also far cleaner and more detailed. DESTROYER has some black crush, but is quite a bit sharper as well. However, GMK is only a small bump over the dvd...ditto Megaguirus and Godzilla vs King Ghidorah. And TOHO's own blu ray of GOJIRA is pretty bad....soft...VERY soft...(damm you DNR!!). But it is interesting to watch the film with the storyboards on screen

And it is possible to download subtitles that ...if you have the know how...you can sync to the dics...
