I haven't watched them yet, haven't seen either before, and know ZERO about them. I did remember reading here that the first one was really cool, so I need to watch it sooner than later. Well Rak...it's a bit ironic you supporting Salvo (or whatever his name is) He was convicted of raping a male actor in one of his early films. The kid was under age. He also filmed it which helped greatly in his conviction.. Then in CREEPER 2 he had a young football team staring in it (half naked) as if to give every critic his middle finger.

He wooed the kid, praised him, seduced him, touched him, encouraged him... and on and on. It wasn't as if he'd drugged him and forced himself on the kid (who was about 15, I think). I was creeped out by the first JEEPERS film, knowing it was the work of a pedophile. Unhealthy sexuality permeates the thing. Effectively scary and unsettling, no doubt about it. But put myself through a sequel, I think not.

If not, then subtext is in the mind of the beholder. I'm not justifying what he did, but I can separate the two films from his personal life. Both are very good. I was pleasantly surprised and pleased with the sequel, particularly the action sequences and the nifty conclusion. ... Reed

Dec 30 11 11:37 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Yes, the films came after his arrest, admission of guilt, conviction and jail time. He was convicted on multiple counts in 1987. His victim was 12 years old at the time. In 1995, when his film POWDER was released by Disney (which also has a creepy "kid-friendly" subtext), the original victim went public in anger. The story broke widely, and Salva did not have his name as director on a film for four years. JEEPERS CREEPER came out in 2001. By that time, of course, Salva was much better... you know how rehabilitating it is to do six months in the slam. Makes it all better. Drivers away those deep thoughts of pretty young boys. "That was back then... I was sick... I'm okay now, really... really." Unh-huh. In my case, anyway, I was quite aware of his past when I saw the film, and it creeped me the fkkkkk out. "touched him"...I thought he gave him a BJ. which he recorded.

I also have it on DVD and have watched it a few times since, but I had no idea what the director/writer had done. I don't know if I want to watch it again if I'm going to be thinking about subtexts. Even deliberately looking for it, as I was just now when I watched it again, I am unable to find anything out of the ordinary. Dec 30 11 7:11 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	When Powder came out on home video I started to watch it with my wife and sister-in-law, but havinng read/heard about Salva I just couldn't watch the film and I ended up leaving the room. I didn't see Jeepers Creepers when it was in the theaters, but I had read positive reviews so when it came out on video, and being a horror fan I rented it and thought it was a truly frightening film. I don't recall if I saw Jeepers Creepers 2 in the theater (I don't think I did), but because I liked the first film so much I checked out the sequel when released on dvd. I generally liked it, but thought it was inferior to the original. Ray Wise's performance does elevate it quite a bit. When I watched the stuff with Salva in the special features I thought he looked creepy. Still, my religion teaches that no one is beyond redemption.
