Dec 21 11 6:21 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The restoration of "Cabinet" included in the Kino "German Horror Masterpieces" set features a short clip with the original German intertitles. I've done a little research and can't locate anything available that even hints at containing the full German intertitle set. This Kino release is probably the best restoration I've purchased. They did a wonderful job recreating the rolling titles if the included German sample is any testimony. But I'd love to see a full German release. Any further info would be appreciated, such as any upcoming new material. Thanks all, and the merriest and happiest of Holidays! Mike

This restoration is the basis for the Kino DVD (and does not have the printer line seen on the Image and Eureka releases) but they exchanged the German intertitles with English ones. Spanish DVD company Divisa released the same restoration (link) and they kept the German intertitles.

Jan 4 12 6:47 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	After checking the DVD's again it appears that what I wrote earlier was incorrect; the DVD companies who licensed their material from Murnau Stiftung (Films sans frontières, Kino and Divisa) do not use the most recent restoration. Instead they make use of the Bundesarchiv-Filmarchiv restoration from 1984. To my knowledge the most recent restoration is still the one done by Cineteca di Bologna and others in the 1990's, which makes use of new material and adds a few minutes of footage, but this version has apparently not been released on any home video format yet. So if new releases are coming, J. Theakston is right that it will (hopefully) be the latest material from the Bologna version.

I'm excited to see any better material on CALIGARI, but surely any early 90's restoration doesn't have the advantage of the new wave of digital restoration technologies?

My guess is, given their obsession for original scores, they'll probably have someone attempt to reconstruct Giuseppe Becce's original score for the film (Gillian Anderson, the musicologist, did this, but my understanding is that there were errors in the reconstruction). I must admit, my favorite score to the film is the one by Timothy Brock that was used on Image. J. Theakston Capitol Theatre, Rome, NY
