H. What didn't you like about the 2nd and 3rd? I am finally reading the books (read FELLOWSHIP right before the release of the film) and so far can see how certain elements might irk fans, but for the most part they seemed quite faithful. The main aspect I find interesting is how Jackson made Aragorn a reluctant king, whereas in the books the reader never gets that impression. Plus he has Anduril (the sword's name, right?) pretty much the whole time. I also much prefer Merry and Pippin's time with the Ents. I also like that Gandalf knows they are with them the whole time. From the beginning Jackson stated that the movie wouldn't make some hardcore Tolkien fans like the movie, but he had to please more than just fans of the book. That's why Arwen played a bigger part (to attract the female audience). Christopher Lee was not happy how Saruman ended, but Jackson wanted to end the movie with a feel good ending. The Hobbit is going to have characters in it that were not in the book (Legolas, Galadriel, Saruman).

I hope that Beorn is in this story, unlike the Rankin/Bass version, which I also loved as a kid. I felt that the first three films were top-notch, first class productions with great stories characters and a great dash of Harryhausen thrown in. Dec 21 11 2:06 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Me neither. It looks good. I wonder how they'll treat talking spiders and trolls, since the first trilogy didn't really portray this. Plus, the first book was really more like a children's book, and then the LOTR was aimed at much older readers. It looks from the trailer like they'll keep the feel similar to the earlier movies... which is fine with me. I'm a fan, but not an uberfan who gets all upset with any deviations in the text. But waiting a whole year... man! I like having things to look forward to, but that's ridiculous. On a related note, I just downloaded the animated Hobbit soundtrack. I'm quite enjoying it. A perfect Monster has no end...

Apparently they've padded the story out quite a bit by incorporating material from the appendices to LOTR and Tolkien's other writings. Not that I'm complaining about the padding--the more Tolkien the better, IMO, but it will probably be a bit frustrating to be forced to wait another year for the story to be concluded. - Clark hollowaypages.com

Thank you, doing it for the money is the only thing I could think of in my head. Jackson has already proven himself with these properties, to both the public and the studio. I would have to guess if he walked in and said "here's a crazy idea, let's just make this thing 5 hours long with an intermission" the studios would say "sure," but then they don't make the same money. His work with LOTR broke quite a bit of new ground, both in how the studio handled it and his filming. Had any series ever been done back to back to back, or rather all at once, before? I will say this though, that the trailer seems like they rushed to get one out "a full year ahead". Other than the amazing song, all we had were character intro shots, landscapes, Sting(the sword), Gandalf smoking, and Golem. Almost all of which we have seen before. I would have preferred to see a particular scene-piece or the end of the trailer tease us with Smog rather than Golem...
