This was before I saw the movie, having only heard or read about it. Certain words, like 'ghost' or 'tomb' always captured my imagination. I just knew the movie held terror and excitement! Here are my top terrifying titles that intrigued and/or frightened me as a kid: THE MUMMY'S GHOST...Mummy and Ghost in the same title?!? Terrifying. GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN...Ghost paired with Frankenstein was a match made in monster kid heaven. THE MUMMY'S CURSE...Curse was another word that always got me. And there was Mummy again! BOWERY AT MIDNIGHT...As a kid I didn't know what Bowery meant, so pairing that strange word with Midnight was magic. THE MUMMY'S TOMB...Oh, I just knew the tomb was dark, dank and deadly. Great title! NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD...The "living dead"? Those words chilled me to the bone. Mixed with "Night", it was perfect. CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON...A "black lagoon"?!? That sounded terrifying. The creature paid off, too. THE ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES...That name, Dr. Phibes, made my blood run cold! Then, seeing his skull face nearly pushed me over the edge. Death isn't much better, and TARTU sounded like a scary witch doctor guy. Verrry scary to me. HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL - If the hill is haunted, the house on the hill must be really bad! CURSE OF THE DEMON - There's that "curse" word again, this time paired-up with another scary word, "demon"! Dec 5 11 2:01 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS . . . my family visited my Grandma every Saturday and I spent those afternoons in my Grandma's chair, reading through her TV Guide, slowly making my way to see what Selwin would be hosting the next Friday night. The title invaded my 10 year old imagination, and all that week, I looked forward to the movie with the anticipation growing as the week progressed. Mom let me invite a friend over that Friday evening, and we watched the typical Friday night fare consisting of RAWHIDE, THE FLINTSTONES, and during the TWILIGHT ZONE, mom made a pallet for Jimmy and I in front of the tv. We settled in, waiting for Selwin to start. I awoke at some point during the night. The house was dark. I shot up from the pallet and turned on the tv. All I saw was a snowy picture. Both Jimmy and I had fallen asleep before the movie! I sat there in the dark, totally disgusted with myself, and felt that I'd never get a chance to see the movie ever again. The Abominable Snowman Of the Himalayas is a classy, somewhat forbidding title. Tarantula says it all. What more do we need to know? The Mad Doctor Of Market Street is a neat title, nicely suggesting a scary movie.

Dec 5 11 7:38 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It's not a horror movie (it's a film noir detective film with Burt Lancaster), but I always remember the title, KISS THE BLOOD OFF MY HANDS. It just brought up really weird images for a kid.

Dec 5 11 9:23 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	THE MUMMY'S TOMB Likewise, I imagined CURSE OF THE MUMMY'S TOMB would be to terror-ific to bear. A Mummy, a Curse, AND a Tomb? Fergitaboutit! THE KILLER SHEWS, THE BEAST WITH A MILLION EYES, and ATTACK OF THE GIANT LEECHES all sounded too terrible to imagine. I figured VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED and FROM HELL IT CAME must have be scary in some unfathomable adult way because they had dirty words in the titles.

NIGHT OF THE BLOOD BEAST...when I first came on this title (in FM), it sounded so-o-o creepy. Didn't get to see it till my late teens and, of course, it couldn't possibly match up to my mind's inner hype. I found it kinda depressing instead of scary. BOWERY AT MIDNIGHT...this title had such an evocative feel to it that I could almost see it in my head even before I had any idea what it was about. Of course, it helped that a slip of FJA's pen (or mind) briefly led a generation of Monster Kids into believing that it featured not only Lugosi, but Karloff as well. INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS...I had never heard of this one till I saw it listed in the newspaper's Sunday tv listings. It was showing that very night -- a school night! It took a ton of convincing, but my mom finally agreed to let me stay up and watch it (I was 9 or 10 at the time). Unfortunately, my mind also made up what this movie was gonna be, based only on the title. And my mind expected monstrous space aliens who snatched bodies, leaving heads behind. That was gonna be one incredibly freaky, scary monster movie. It took me ten years to finally learn to appreciate the quiet horror of INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, once I got past the disappointment of no space monster decapitations.

THE WEREWOLVES ARE HERE! somewhere and it sounding like the most horrifying, gut-wrenching movie imaginable. It is, it is!

When CURSE OF THE SWAMP CREATURE & ZONTAR turned up in the TV GUIDE, I was intrigued and looked forward to seeing them because I`d never heard of them before. Little did I know.
