Netflix may be a good model, but their titles keep cycling out of the stream as their rights expire, and what they have available for streaming is far from universal. I'm as anxious as anyone to dump my physical media, but I won't do it until I can have some assurance that anything I might want to watch will be available whenever I want it.

Joe Karlosi wroteRecently I have been reminded of the 1980 movie FAME. There was a scene in there where a stuffy old music teacher tries to teach students to play their usual horns and stringed instruments, and a new young whiz kid tells him how "outdated" that flute/violin/cello/brass approach is, since "one day soon everyone will have all sorts of magic music coming out of his fingertips on one electronic gadget". Well, of course that type of technology did occur. But as my girlfriend will tell you in 2011 (she is a college music administrator), the old-fashioned use of horns, piano, strings, et al, are still as big as ever. I've accompanied her to watch her students' live concerts.

Why, it's no different than collecting stamps or snow globes!

Judge ye not, lest you be judged - but I'd sure feel uncomfortable in the home of someone who had a bunch of merchandise from this site proudly on display.

However, if your LPs get warped by water or heat and you can't play them anymore, that's the end of them.
