Oct 27 11 10:18 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Despite the success of the Universal Monster Movies on the silver screen, I noticed that with the exception of the 1943 version of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, LUX RADIO THEATRE seemed to have no interest in adapting such Universal Monster Movies like FRANKENSTEIN, DRACULA or THE WOLFMAN for radio.

Oct 28 11 9:28 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Pink, such properties were largely considered "B" back then, and Lux tried to play an "A" game. Also, they were a Family show, and maybe didn't want to scare the kids/offend the parents? And maybe Uni just didn't play ball?

I am guessing you are right except for the latter but only because there were many Universal Films adapted for Lux Radio though not horror. I do however consider the earlier Universal Horror Films of the early 30's as more of "A" horror films like FRANKENSTEIN, DRACULA, THE OLD DARK HOUSE, THE INVISIBLE MAN and especially THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN. And while tame at today's standards wouldn't their adaptation of George Pal's movie version of H.G. Wells WAR OF THE WORLDS be too scary for children? When I was a kid, the original movie scared me as a kid. So not sure if the producers of the Lux Radio Theatre were really worried about scarying the kids.
