Or "Monarch Books Brings the Purple Sauce Most Savagely"!This was mentioned under paperback novelizations, but I think this infamous series deserves it's own topic.
Imagine my shock upon buying the paperback of Gorgo at age 10.
"Who put all this smut in my monster book? Damn grownups!"
The pages smelled like bubble bath! Never figured out that one. Reptilicus too, I think.
"Mom, why is there sex in my monster book, and why do the pages smell like bubble bath??"
I had a good-natured, understanding mom.
I still have a copy of Reptilicus, not my original but I wanted another read when I was older. The perfume has faded from the pages.
Written by the infamous Dean Owen, who was mentioned in Keep Watching the Skies (Bill Warren's book).
Someone said he was their favorite author.
Online article says: "I mean, if you thought the monster was patently ridiculous, wait until you read about what was happening in between sock-puppet attacks -- according to Owen, that is!"
You can also read bits of Konga, which was a treat because I never had that one.
I saw the Monarch "Gorgo" being scalped online for $33!!
Ack! I don't know why the text went sky-west and crooked. Attempts to correct it unsuccessful.
