TCM's Chaney marathon afforded me the ability to watch the TCM reconstruction of LAM. Although I wish there were more stills to work with, the reconstruction was very good. TCM is to be commended for doing it. The story is virtually identical to Mark of the Vampire. The bat girl in LAM was very inferior to the one they found for Mark of the Vampire, but Chaney's makeup was remarkable. The introduction stated that LAM had the highest box office gross of any Chaney film, and 90% must be do to Chaney's makeup (10% would be from the title, London after Midnight is a great titled for a horror film). One thing that struck me is that the reconstruciton shows real estate agents or someone showing the Balfour house to Chaney's vampire. Who would rent a house to Chaney's vampire? What did people think of the reconstruction?
